The Basics

While the Sagrada Familia looms large over Barcelona—it’s visible from many parts of the city—the cathedral should be seen up close and from within to truly be appreciated. Visitors can tour the interior on their own, on a guided tour, or with an audio guide. It’s also possible to take an elevator up one of the towers for sweeping views over the city.

Just about every sightseeing tour in Barcelona includes a stop here, as do hop-on hop-off bus tours, which also stop at Park Güell, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, and Plaça de Catalunya. It’s possible to combine a visit to the Sagrada Familia with a half-day trip to the nearby mountain abbey of Montserrat or the medieval city of Girona.

Skip the Line: Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia Guided Tour
We thoroughly enjoyed this half-day tour! Our guide was kind and full of knowledge. She accommodated the pace of the entire group. The bus between the two sites was comfortable and clean. I highly recommend this tour if you actually want to know the history of Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell and not just pictures. We got those too! Bring sunglasses/hat, water, and good walking shoes!

Barcelona and Sagrada Familia Small Group Tour with Hotel Pick-up
Vicente our tour guide was absolutely amazing! He gave us valuable safety advice and recommended great places to eat. We had a wonderful drive around the city after visiting the Sagrada Familia. He was very kind to take photos of us as well. I recommended him to other people I knew who were also visiting Barcelona. Thank you for a fun and great experience! I’m still saying “Vale” 😂

Priority Access: Barcelona Sagrada Familia Tour with Tower Entry
We met our tour guide, Sara, near la Sagrada Familia (easy to find). Our guide did a great job keeping everyone together and making sure we all knew what was happening. She clearly explained the history and the smaller artistic details outside and inside the church. She even offered to take photos for us. We opted for the tower tour and enjoyed the views from the bell tower. The spiral staircase leading out was a little daunting for anyone scared of heights.

Sagrada Familia Private Tour with Skip-the-Line Ticket
Our tour guide Ariel was very knowledgeable and definitely added to the experience. The only reason I subtracted a star was that I booked this tour 2 months ago and 90 minutes before the start I was contacted and told the time moved up 30 minutes! We had a morning tour booked and had planned on walking to Sagrada Familia, but instead had to take a taxi to make this earlier time. I would have loved more than an hour and a half notice for something that was booked so long ago!

Our guide, Ana, was knowledgeable, informative, entertaining, and intuitive. She provided excellent context for what we were seeing, navigated us away from the crowd when possible, and shared the best and most interesting parts of Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell.

Combo Tour: Fast Track Sagrada Familia & Park Güell with the Best of Gaudí
Tour of Sagrada Familia and Park Guell were wonderful. Great guides. We only saw these 2 things so tour information was misleading. Walk from the church to the bus for Park Guell was very long. Would have been ugly had it been raining.

Sagrada Familia Private Tour with Skip-the-Line Ticket
The Sagrada Familia is perhaps one of the most beautiful buildings we have ever seen. Our guide Elsa was on time, extremely attentive, and knowledgeable. The church was absolutely stunning. The stained glass illuminated the church beautifully. We highly recommend this tour.

When to Get There

The Sagrada Familia is open throughout the year but can be extremely busy in summer, so a skip-the-line ticket is recommended. The facade looks markedly different when illuminated at night than it does during the day, so plan for at least a short visit during both periods. Note that the basilica holds an international mass each Sunday morning in several languages; entrance is free, but space is limited.

Visiting the Sagrada Familia Museum

The basement beneath the passion façade houses a museum covering the temple's construction through drawings, photographs, and plaster models. Entry to the museum is included in basilica admission, and visitors can see the working modeling studio where Gaudi’s restored maquettes are reproduced to aid in the structure’s ongoing construction.
