Roman Forum (Foro Romano)

Largo Romolo e Remo, Rome, 00186

The Basics

The site is most often visited on three-hour tours that combine a visit to the ancient city with a Colosseum tour. Whether you choose a private tour or small-group tour, it's wise to visit with an expert guide who can help you navigate the large space and bring the ruins to life with true stories of gladiators, Roman emperors, and Julius Caesar. After your visit, check out the adjacent ruins at Circus Maximus or pay a visit to the Capitoline Museums to see the display of classical Roman empire sculptures.

This tour was so informative! It’s definitely long but Maya made it so enjoyable! Be prepared to walk, I forgot to wear sunblock and got a major sunburn. A lot of people from the group left midway because they were tired, but it’s honestly so worth it. Maya is amazing!

Private Colosseum and Roman Forum Tour
Our guide was excellent. Knowledgeable, thoughtful, personable and articulate. What an amazing experience. The private tour also allowed more freedom to ask questions and get greater insight. Perfect!

Colosseum, Pantheon and Roman Forum Express: Small Group Tour Skip-the-Line Pass
Our tour guide, Erturk, was extremely knowledgable. We thoroughly enjoyed all 3 parts of the tour — the Pantheon, the Roman Forum and the Coliseum. You do a lot of walking, but it is worth it.

Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Guided Tour | Skip the Line Tickets
Overall the tour was great despite the guide going off and leaving us. Eventually she realized it. I was desperate for water. If you do this tour take a lot of water. It is a lot of walking and hot and no consideration is given for basic human needs during the 3 hours.

Skip-the-Line Guided Group Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill
Raul was an excellent guide for this tour. He spoke perfect English and explained crucial details of what we were seeing. He even cracked a few jokes throughout the tour, which made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Grazie mille Raul! My only regret is that we were not able to be guided through the entire Forum, though I enjoyed wandering at my own pace after the tour was finished.

Colosseum, Pantheon and Roman Forum Express: Small Group Tour Skip-the-Line Pass
Being able to see all these wonderful places was awe inspiring! This may have been mentioned in the trip details and I just didn't see it...The tour involved quite a bit of walking and some of our group had to bow out after a bit - it was pretty hot and more strenuous than I think than people expected. We were also not able to go into the Pantheon because it was Sunday AM and there was mass. Some of the group was upset about that as well.

Discovering the Roman Forum Ruins

Inside the archaeological area, stick to the Forum’s main thoroughfare, Via Sacra, to pass by important ruins such as the Julia Curia and the house of the Vestal Virgins. Some of the forum’s most impressive ruins include the white marble arch of Settimio Severo, the first-century Arch of Titus, and the remains of the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine. If you can’t get enough of ancient Rome, there’s plenty more history just outside the city with day trips available to Pompeii and the Appian Way.
