The Basics

To reach the chalet, an opulent elevator decorated with brass, leather, and Venetian glass rises through solid rock to the summit. At the top, visitors can explore almost-untouched rooms, visit underground bunkers, and dine at the site’s cozy panoramic restaurant and beer garden. Take a day trip from Salzburg or Munich to relax and enjoy the scenery on your way to Eagle’s Nest, and learn about the site’s history from an expert tour guide. Visitors who want to get an overview of the region can opt for a combo tour to see Eagle’s Nest along with nearby highlights such as King’s Lake and the 450-year-old Salzburg Salt Mines.

Well Organized, Fun, Good Outing
The tour was very well organized. Our tour guide, Walter, shared interesting information with good humor, he is an excellent communicator. The Eagle's Nest building was smaller than we expected, but still interesting to see, and wonder how, and why, it was ever constructed on this summit. The views from the top of the mountain were outstanding.

This tour was fantastic, especially our guide Thomas. He was funny, fun, engaging, and clever. The buses up and back were clean and spacious. Thomas took care to wait for and help me find my lost wife — lost in Berchtesgaden. sehr gut!!

Adventure in Eagle's Nest - Hike Tour
This was an amazing tour and our guide Claudio was great- i learnt so much about the history of the area which was fascinating. The hike up is a nice way up the mountain where it’s not so busy. I definitely recommend this tour if you want a unique less touristy experience of the eagles nest!

Adventure in Eagle's Nest - Hike Tour
I loved this tour. The brilliant, intelligent and fascinating guide took our very small group on a journey up to the Eagle’s Nest. Although the day I went was grey, and views were limited to as far as you can reach with your hand, somehow Claudio made it an unforgettable, educational and enchanting day.

Berchtesgaden Town and Eagle's Nest Day Tour from Munich
Great experience to travel up the mountain to the Eagles nest, unfortunately on our day there was heavy mist so visibility was very poor. Although this was disappointing, weather is not predictable the tour guide was full of information and had back up pictures. We did walk to the top and found black mountain salamanders and lots of lovely flowers.

Salzburg Super Saver: Bavarian Mountains including Eagle's Nest and Salt Mines
The tour was organized very well. Walter was a very funny tour guide and kept us entertained and informed about all the places that we visited. We loved the salt mine experience as it was really unique and well thought out. The view and ride to Eagle’s Nest was very picturesque. The village where we stopped for lunch had good restaurants and stores to explore.

Private Half-Day Eagle's Nest Tour from Salzburg
We had an excellent tour guide! Lots of knowledge, very easy going, great conversation… we thoroughly enjoyed our day. Go early to avoid the major crowds and a pro tip from our guide: sit on the right side of the bus (facing the front) for the best views!

The trip was really informative and the guide, Ursula, was perfect! I’d love to do it again. The views were spectacular, the history was so interesting, and the bus driver, Tosten, was masterful.

This trip will take you to a wonderful, charming postcard landscapes. The climbing is a little bit tiring but worth it in my opinion. The tour guide was very nice and informative.

The Eagle’s Nest, Then & Now

The lodge was built in 1939 to celebrate Hitler’s 50th birthday, and was originally intended to serve as a retreat and meeting house for the Nazi Party. It was seldom used for its intended purpose, however, due to the outbreak of World War II. Today, visitors come from all over the world to learn about German history and enjoy summer weather at the on-site restaurant and beer garden (biergarten).
