Iconic movie locations you can actually visit.
Hangar-7 broke new architectural ground when it was built at the turn of the century. The clear structure spans almost 330 feet (100 meters) without a single supporting column and offers impressive views out to the mountains. Exhibits pay tribute to the world of Red Bull, which has its headquarters outside Salzburg, from Felix Baumgartner’s stratospheric parachute jump and Channel glider crossing to champion racing cars and vintage aircraft. The towers house restaurants, bars, and lounges.
Hangar-7 is at Salzburg Airport, just 3 miles (5 kilometers) west of downtown. You don’t need a plane ticket to visit: Just catch bus 2 to Karolingerstrasse or bus 10 to Pressezentrum.
The museum area of Hangar-7 is open from morning until late in the evening, seven days a week, but some zones close on Monday and Thursday evenings. The bars, restaurant, and café have varied opening hours.
The city of Mozart might not seem a plausible home base for Red Bull’s daredevil adventurers, but there are plenty of high-adrenaline thrills to enjoy in and around the city. Try a tandem paraglide from Mt. Bischling; scale the City Wall via ferrata fixed-route climb; or go white-water rafting on the Salzach River.
