The Basics

The county of Wiltshire is brimming with Neolithic sites. Day tours departing from London, Glastonbury, and Salisbury typically combine visits to Stonehenge, Avebury Henge, Woodhenge, and West Kennet Long Barrow, which are all part of the Stonehenge and Avebury UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other day tours combine a trip to the Avebury site with visits to picturesque English cities, towns, and villages, such as Georgian Bath or medieval Lacock, known for its wood-framed houses and stone cottages.

Want to see Stonehenge before the crowds- and more ? Go with Mad Max Tours!
It was a wonderful time with Richard. Seeing Stonehenge in the morning before the crowds is a huge win for this tour. I even prefer the Avebury stone circle more- less crowds and we can touch the rocks. Lacock was lovely as the setting of many films and TV series while Castle Combe was absolutely deligthful and picture-book perfect. Overall, it was awesome!

Bath, Avebury and Lacock Village Small-Group Day Tour from London
Samuel was a wonderful guide. He passed along information that made the stops more enjoyable. Our trip went smoothly and as it was a small group, timely. The Avebury stones were magnificent, Lacock charming, and Bath a place I need to visit for a longer period in the future.

Stonehenge, Avebury, Cotswolds. Small guided day tour from Bath (Max 14 persons)
We had a fantastic time. Kevin was a great tour guide & gave us tons of info at all of our stops. The bus was clean & smooth, even had a power plug for my phone. My daughter and I enjoyed our trip! Highly recommend! BONUS: we left Bath early & got to Stonehenge early, before all the crowds got too big. So my pictures had very few people in them. A true PLUS!!!

Stonehenge, Avebury, Cotswolds. Small guided day tour from Bath (Max 14 persons)
Richard, my tour guide and driver as well, was nice, funny, and took care of everyone. good time management. We had enough time to walk around every stop. He also gave us lots of information about the attractions. 12 guests in a clean and comfortable 16-seat van with USB chargers. I joined this tour because of the small group and the good reviews of this tour company.

Stonehenge, Avebury and West Kennet Guided Small Group Tour from London
Amazing!! Michel, our tour guide was personable & very informative. Throughout the ride he pointed out local historical attractions that weren’t necessarily part of our tour. Additionally, he gave newsworthy stories of the times. The large van was very comfortable. We were given the perfect amount of guided tour time & free time on our own to explore Stonehenge, Avebury and West Kennet.

Able to walk around Stonehenge and tried to communicate with the stones, feel the history of Avebury, Cotswolds etc are perhaps once in a life time experience for us who come from Malaysia. Our guide Collin is wonderful and humours making the tour lively. The family photos taken will always be a remembrance for us

History and Highlights of Avebury

Today in Avebury, only 30 original stones remain standing, though pillars mark the places where other stones once stood. It is thought many of the original stones were removed in the Middle Ages by religious zealots who wanted to wipe out evidence of England’s pagan past. Other stones were pilfered in the 18th century and used to build houses in the vicinity, some of which can still be seen across the fields. Some stones to look out for: the huge Swindon Stone, which has never been toppled, and the Barber Surgeon Stone, under which the skeleton of a man was unearthed. The tools he was buried with indicate that he was a barber-cum-surgeon.
