The Basics

Hanalei Bay offers almost every water sport imaginable and it is one of Kauai’s best places to learn how to surf. Opt for a private or small-group beginner surf lesson, or take a guided kayak or snorkeling tour. Most tours of Kauai’s North Shore include a visit to Hanalei Bay, and flightseeing tours of the island offer a bird’s eye view of the bay on the way to the Na Pali Coast.

I’ll definitely be coming back to do it again.
Kayaking from a river into the ocean. Swimming with a Sea Turtle. Enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.

Hanalei Bay Kayak & Snorkel Tour
What an amazing experience!!!! Our tour guide Kolo was phenomenal!!!!! He gave us a true Hawaiian experience from the history, local knowledge, ukulele serenade, coconut hunting and his friendly & funny . He treated us and took care of us like Ohana! He even rescued my cell phone when it fell into the ocean. I love supporting a family owned and operated business. The grounds are clean and beautiful! Everyone is courteous and helpful!! Overall a spectacular experience.

Hanalei River Paddle and Bay - Snorkel Tour in Kapa'a, Hawaii
We had a fabulous trip kayaking in the Hanalei River and the bay and then snorkeling in Hanalei Bay. Our tour guide, Jay, was amazing! He had a great vibe, was a wealth of information about Kauai and made absolutely sure that we had a safe and very fun adventure. I would definitely book a trip with this vendor again! Five stars (and more) for Jay!!!

Hanalei River Paddle and Bay - Snorkel Tour in Kapa'a, Hawaii
We had a great time. Jay and Nick were excellent guides. Jay was very knowledgeable about the Hawaiian Islands and specifically, Kauai. We felt safe dispite a couple of us having little or no kayaking experience. Snorkeling was great with lots of colorful fish and a big green turtle to see. I would definitely recommend. Great family fun!

Scavenger hunt feedback

Aloha Hanalei Adventurer Scavenger Hunt
Talking to locals about their culture It was good. The majority of the questions were interesting to find the answers, Unfortunately this was done remotely, it took us about an hour and a half to finally get the questions on our cell phone. The reception was not good in that area where we were supposed to meet someone and no one was there but us. The host lived in Arizona. It was only two of us on the scavenger hunt we advise you to change the name because it was not a scavenger hunt as we know it. we are over 65+ years old and some of the activities was too strenuous and jumping off a pier no we could not do that. Then we were told we had to walk a mile and a half and in our condition we cannot do that. We had a really nice time but it was not worth the money we paid.

Aloha Hanalei Adventurer Scavenger Hunt
We had a great time and enjoyed learning more about the Hawaiian culture. The clues were fun and easy to follow and we learned many interesting things from the people we met! I would highly recommend this to do with friends or family. It was a good time had by all and we enjoyed making fun memories along the way!

Hanalei Bay Kayak & Snorkel Tour
I really wanted to see a sea turtle, but I didn’t just see one, I swam with two! The kayak portion is fun but the snorkeling was awesome! Several boats flipped (ho’ohuli) on the way back into the river but nobody was hurt. Our guides were quick to respond and made sure that the group stayed together.

When to Get There

The best time to visit Hanalei Bay is during Kauai’s dry season, which runs from April through October. The busiest season in Kauai is from November to March. Hanalei Bay Surfing

Hanalei Bay has gentle waves from April through October that make it an ideal place to learn how to surf. Moreover, with plenty of sandy-bottomed spots, beginner surfers don’t have to worry about falling on rocks or a shallow reef. Many surf schools in the area cater to beginners and also offer lessons to intermediate and advanced surfers. The winter season is less safe for beginners but provides plenty of big swells for advanced surfers.
