The Basics

Set just outside the town of La Fortuna, this cascade is a must-see for visitors to Arenal Volcano National Park. From the parking lot, the descent down the staircase to the falls only takes roughly 20 minutes. A longer trail winds through the rain forest and can be traversed on horseback, giving travelers an opportunity to spot toucans, monkeys, and other tropical creatures. At the bottom, adventurous visitors can swim in the clear waters below the fall, while others can picnic along the rocky shoreline or snap pictures of the scenery.

Most La Fortuna Waterfall tours include a visit to the adjacent Arenal Volcano National Park, where you can head out on a volcano hike, get your adrenaline pumping on a waterfall-jumping and canyoning adventure, or float down the river on a safari tour.

Excellent day with our friendly, helpful tour guide and the smooth sailing driver. Saw some excellent flora and fauna. They weren't hesitant to stop on the side of the road to show us a sloth and a toucan, too! No rush for our enjoyment of the tour. Excellent!

A Great Day Trip

Full day Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall and Hotsprings
Tour included La Fortuna waterfall (and cascade), Arenal Volcano and access to a hot springs resort outside of La Fortuna. Isaac, our tour guide, was helpful and informative, providing lots of knowledge about the area and especially about the volcanic eruptions which have occurred. If you're in the La Fortuna area for only a day, this is a great way to check out numerous attractions.

Raul was a great tour guide. He was very informative, was nice, and had a lot of energy. The lookout point for the volcano was beautiful and so was the La Fortuna waterfall.

Guided La Fortuna Waterfall, Swimming Hole and Lunch
I loved our tour guide, Marcos; so glad it was not Jason ;); he provided EXCELLENT customer service. He taught us so much about the area from plants/trees, wildlife, and optical illusions. He made our group feel very comfortable. Glad we went early morning to avoid the crowd. Marcos is the best! FYI- Jason is not a real tour guide just an inside joke for the group.

Best of La Fortuna Combo Tour
Our guide was really great and knowledgeable. Overall trip was great, but being in rain forest it’s difficult to predict the weather.

Half Day Adventure from La Fortuna- 2 tours in 1, 4 options to choose!
This is a fun combo tour. Going to the hanging bridges with a guide was really nice. He found and showed us wildlife we would have normally missed. The waterfall is definitely worth checking out - just be ready for some COLD water! The included lunch and dessert were delicious. I would definitely recommend this tour!

Skip-the-Line La Fortuna Waterfall Admission Ticket
We bought the “skip-the-line” pass but honestly we didn’t need it - perhaps due to the timing of when we went (around 12pm). The waterfall was beautiful and even though there were quite a number of people there everyone was respectful and allowed others room for pictures/swimming. I will say the warnings are legit - it is tiring climbing back up those stairs but they are kind enough to put seating at different points if you need to stop for a breather.

Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna Waterfall, Typical lunch and Arenal Volcano Hike
All parts of the tour were great. It is a long day with lots of hiking and steps - but it is worth it. Levi, our guide, and Randall, our driver, we’re both GREAT!!!
