This small-group visit to the majestic monastery of Montserrat, with optional skip-the-line upgrade to visit La Sagrada Familia, offers two of Barcelona's top attractions in one great package. If you're short on time or simply looking for a way to visit two Barcelona highlights, this excursion is a great option.

Start your morning or afternoon trip from central Barcelona near the Palau de la Musica. Board your comfy minivan for the scenic drive up to Montserrat. Once you arrive at this towering mountain site, you'll have the option to ride the landmark's famous cable car (at your own expense) up to the top, enjoying incredible views of the surrounding area. If you prefer, you can simply stay on board your minivan for the ride to the top.

Upon reaching Montserrat, follow your guide on an exploration of its 1,000-year old Santa Maria de Montserrat Basilica. Inside you'll discover the landmark's main attraction, the Virgin of Montserrat. After visiting the Basilica, spend time exploring the Museum of Montserrat's many religious sculptures and artifacts. Guests who prefer to skip the museum can enjoy the hiking trail that circles the mountain, offering great views of Catalonia. Or take a ride on the rack railway (at your own expense) which winds its way around the mountaintop.

La Sagrada Familia Upgrade:

Make the most of your time in Barcelona by combining your Montserrat tour with skip-the-line entry to Antoni Gaudí’s La Sagrada Familia church. With this upgrade, you can choose the time and date of your visit, giving you the freedom to fit it in with your other plans.Simply inform in the Special Requirements section when you want to visit the church between 9am and 6pm. If you do not state a specific time to visit the church, your tickets will be purchased automatically for the same day of your visit to Montserrat. If you are doing the afternoon tour, your tickets will be bought for a time between 10am and 12pm the following day. If you are doing the morning tour, your tickets will be bought for a time between 3pm and 6pm the same day. Please contact the office to arrange collection of the tickets. Please note, these tickets are non refundable, and cannot be modified after purchase.

This unique upgrade option allows you to spend as much time inside the church as you wish.

Simply make your own way to La Sagrada Familia and then head inside on your own. The wait lines here are almost as legendary as the building’s fantastic architecture, but you can avoid them. The guide was very cheerful and had a good sense of humor. He was very helpful in answering any questions we had. He even helped us make a lunch reservation when we got back to Barcelona. We did wish we had had a half hour longer at Montserrat.

Our guide, Nicolas, was as enthusiastic and knowledgeable as could possibly be. He was passionate about Montserrat and made sure we saw and heard everything was to see and know about.

Wrong time at La Sagrada Familia

We bought Montserrat with a Sagrada Familia tour. We choose 3:30pm tickets for Sagrada Familia but when we arrived they said tickets were for 6:30. I showed them my itinerary from Aviator which said 3:30pm but our tickets said 6:30. SO MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR TIME ON YOUR TICKETS, dont go by what Aviator has on your itinerary because they will not let you in early! Messed up our whole afternoon!

Great Experience

I had a great time. Our tour was max 8 people. We met at 8:30. Our tour guide was very good at describing areas of barcelona on the way up to montserrat and he provided a great tour up at the mountain. This is good if you want a bit of time up there to explore but don't need the full day. You have around 1.5hours of free time. It was busy on a saturday.

Highly recommend this tour with Anna, our delightful, knowledgeable and fun guide. We prefer the small group tours which suited Anna’s very social personality to make us feel very welcome and comfortable. The Montserrat is so beautiful and unusual. Our only regret was we didn’t have more time to spend there.

We did the combo Monsarat/ Sagrato Familia and were dropped off for out Sangrsta tour only to find out that Viator booked us for a totally different day. We only had time to do Monsarat in morning and The Sangrata that afternoon. Please book your tickets from The Sangrata Familia directly online. Do not use Viator unless you are willing to miss this opportunity... leaving Barcelona very disappointed!

Barcelona delight

Our tour guide, Nicholas, was fantastic....very interesting & knowledgable !!!! Wish we had had an earlier start since the crowds in Montserrat begin to grow as the day progressed. The only disappointment was that he just dropped us off at La Sagrada Familia & we entered with all the other tourists---no such thing as skip the line...as per the lady at the audio desk (which wasn't included to our surprise). Sort of felt alittle taken.

Beautiful trip. We met at Explore Catalunya, near the Palau Musica. Nice small group -- 6 in all. Extremely knowledgeable guide. Friendly, and with a great sense of humor. He was from Ireland but has been in Barcelona for quite some time. I especially appreciated the tips about checking out the library at Montserraat and also the Art Museum there. We had plenty of time to explore on our own.

Montserrat was such a majestical place. In my opinion I could've spent an entire day here. Whatever you do please carve out time to ride the monorail up and down. The views are amazing, even the hike is worth it. La Sagrada Familia is an amazing basilica. Visiting both locations help me to have a deep understanding a growing love for Spain.

The day we took the tour it was raining and this made the tour less inviting than what it could have been if fine. Beautiful scenery on the trip to/from Montserrat. A fair bit of walking so it is not recommended for those with walking disabilities. La Sagrada Familia is a must see. Outstanding workmanship. Glad we had the pre-paid tickets as the queues were huge with over an hours wait time to be admitted.
