Depending on the size of the group on the day, your tour will return either to the main office or to the Hard Rock Cafe- in Place Catalunya, which is just a simple 3-5 minute walk from the office.

Start your trip from central Barcelona, continuing by an air-conditioned vehicle on a drive through the lush countryside to the charming village of Besalú. Once you arrive, hop out to begin a walking tour of this ancient city, stopping to admire its streets lined with medieval-era architecture. Then visit a nearby mikveh (a 12th-century Jewish bath) before stopping by a medieval synagogue. 

Continue next to Castellfollit de la Roca, a positively minuscule town situated on the edge of a basalt cliff. This tiny village harbors 1,000 citizens in a town that’s just 3,280 square feet (1,000 square meters). Proceed to Rupit, where you have time to wander this beautiful hamlet at your leisure. Stroll the cobblestone roads lined with 16th-century houses, cross the city’s hanging wooden bridge, and make a visit Rupit’s baroque-era Church of Sant Miquel. Feel free to have lunch (at your own expense) before checking out the ruins of the Castle of Rupit set on a picturesque rocky peak.

After Rupit, take a scenic drive towards the sandstone cliffs at Cingles de Tavertet, set in the Ter River Valley, passing by the area’s megalithic tomb and its Iberian Wall as well. Then arrive in Tavertet, taking time to explore the area’s 48 preserved homes from the 16th and 17th centuries with your guide. Hear a few details about the village from your guide before checking out the 11th-century Romanesque Church of Sant Cristòfol. You then have time to take a break, grabbing a coffee (at your own expense) or enjoying a short walk to the scenic overlook at Panta de Sau lake.

Finish your trip with a ride back to Barcelona, during which you enjoy vistas of verdant-green forests like Magatalls, along with the UNESCO Man and Biosphere-listed El Montseny natural park. You are dropped off back at your departure point in Barcelona at the end of the day.

I would highly recommend this tour and our guide, Anna. It is a long day: from the time I arrived at the office to when we returned was nearly 11 hours but it is so worth it. The villages are beautiful and the scenery overall is gorgeous. Anna was a fantastic guide. She drove our group of 6 though the mountains of Spain and showed us around each village, pointing out interesting features and giving us a quick lesson is Spanish history. We had free time to explore on our own in each village and she made suggestions for different lunch venues.

The places we visited were nice, Medieval, cobbled street towns. It was a lovely get-away from the city, tasting a different part of Spain! Although the rainy May weather,we spent great time with our guide. Honestly, this is exactly the way all guides should treat their customers, with great care! The guide was very knowledgable and he had personal attention to each of. We not only spent good time with him but were given great piece of advice for our stay in Barcelona. I highly recommend! Genuinely had a fantastic experience even though it was pouring rain when we went. Each Of the three medieval towns (Besalu, Rupit, and tavertet) had their own unique characteristic that made it special. Our tour guide was accommodating and always put himself forward with what we may need (amazingly he had several umbrellas to pass around) and had several recommendations not just from the tour but our stay in Barcelona. Would love to do this tour again and would suggest it to anyone that wanted a more green scenic experience of Spain.

We were a little off with the start meeting location, but another guide saw us and flagged us down. We had a smooth check in and were introduced to Jordi, our guide. Engaging, personable, and knowledgeable! An absolute pleasure as a guide! All three sites were beautiful in their own right, and we were captivated most simply by the age, but everything brought to life by the teaching from our guide. Besalú was the first stop, after leaving Barcelona. Fascinating town! Rupit was where we spent some time in some shops, and where Jordi offered to set us up for lunch. Tavertet was smaller and the most remote, but the trip and the town offered some gorgeous views. Already told someone to not miss this tour and to ASK FOR JORDI!!

Tour vehicle too small, too little time on location

We were excited to see these 3 villages and they are authentic. Our tour guide was well versed and explained well. We felt like the tour was too rushed. The tour is 9 1/2 to 10 1/2 hours long with a lot of drive time. It would be better that the tour company, Experience Catalluyna, would drop take off the 3rd village and give people more time to enjoy the other 2. Also, there were 8 people on the tour plus the guide in a 9 person van. Very tight and uncomfortable. Either buy bigger vans or reduce the group size.

Hello, I am sorry that this tour did not give you the experience you were looking for. The three villages we visit all offer something different, and it would be a pity to miss any of them out. The driving time between villages is about an hour, so I don't think that's too much. Regarding the size of the minivan, there is very little we can do about that. It is purpose built for 8 passengers, and there is adequate space. Some customers looking for a more luxury option, decide to do this tour as a private option so that they can have a vehicle all to themselves. It was a great tour! The order of stops made sense, with the impressive Besalú and its bridge a fun starting point. All three cities had interesting features, and it was fun going deeper and deeper into the hills/mountains as we went along. The weather was mediocre, but the trip was still enjoyable. There was a good mix between downtime in the cities and guided touring. The lunch (in a small-town restaurant) was amazing with a great value. And of course a huge part of a tour like this is the guide, who was nice and knowledgeable (and a good driver!). Would recommend this tour.

This was the best tour we’ve had in Barcelona. My family of 4 learned a lot about the Catalan’s language, authentic dishes, the people, tradition and about their beautiful country side. We would never have seen these places on our own or would never have tried fideua, calcot w/ salbitxada sauce, cava, amongst other things w/o Jordy. 1st stop- Get a drink n pastries 2nd stop- Have lunch here. Shop 3rd stop - small. No shops here. Jordy- We tried all of the authentic Catalan dishes and cava at the restaurant you recommend; amazing! Best meal we’ve had in Barcelona too!
