Please arrive on time for the start of your tour. We meet at Keauhou Small Boat Harbor down from the Outrigger Hotel. Take Ali'i Drive south to 78-7138 Kaleiopapa Street. Look for our white business van near the boat ramps to check in. Be sure to come in swim wear and bring towels.

Tickets purchased through a 3rd party (such as TripAdvisor/Viator/Expedia...etc) or at a discounted rate may join again for an additional $30 per person. Please keep in mind that seats may be extremely limited during certain times of the year. We usually are very successful in finding mantas for you; however if they decide to take the night off the costs involved with setting up the charter will not allow us to offer you a refund. It was an ethereal experience to have these huge majestic creatures swimming right up to us as we floated above them. We learned a great deal about these 12’+ manta rays which made it even more personal. All are uniquely marked and so, are named. What fun to meet a few!

Amazing experience!!! Not to be missed

Do NOT miss this experience!!! We met at the dock at 9:40 for the 10:00 pm excursion. We were nervous about jumping into the dark ocean and about being cold but all of those worries subsided as we put on the wetsuits and received a tutorial of what to expect. Fortunately we had a calm, clear nite! The boat ride took only about 5 minutes because the site is not far from the doc. Upon arrival we jumped from the side of the boat, grabbed the floating spotlight platform and put our faces into the water, breathing through our snorkels. It requires no effort on your part except to hold on and watch. The viewing lasted 30 minutes. Several mantas put on a show, coming so close as to brush against us. It was thrilling and mesmerizing. Notes:. If you've never snorkled before, ask for a tutorial at the van. You must have enough upper body strength to climb the ladder back into the boat. This is suitable for children. Definitely DO NOT miss it.!

Our snorkeling trip with the manta rays was unforgettable! Our guide was great and we saw a ton of manta rays during our trip. We took the 7:20 PM tour and they already had light boards set up in the water with manta rays actively feeding. We also enjoyed the small trip with only six people on our boat. It felt more intimate and we got more attention from our crew and got to see more manta rays. I would recommend taking Dramamine before hand if you have any motion sickness worries!

This tour was amazing! There were only 6 people onboard for this tour, which is all they take out at once. We were treated great by all of the crew. The manta ray experience itself was fabulous! We saw at least 8 manta rays and had a half an hour to enjoy the mantas coming right in front of us. I highly recommend using this company to book your tour.

This was an amazing experience. We got to see at least 6 different rays, one of which was at least 15 feet long, wing tip to wing tip and 2000 pounds! I was nervous about being in the water at night, but the experience wasn't scary AT ALL! You're not far from shore and you can see the bottom of the ocean the while time. Definitely do this tour, you won't regret it!

Great experience but mis-information

This was the highlight of our trip! Absolutely amazing experience but with a few complaints. Our tour instructions said to arrive on time how ever we got in the water 45 minutes late because they had another group going out as we got there. Second. The tour information says it's 1 hour 20 minuts long. We were in the water for 30 minutes. So the only conclusion I came to is they count the 45 minute delay and wait in that which was really upsetting. I would highly recommend this experience. It's like nothing you will ever experience again. Their were about 6 Manta Rays that were swimming very close to us the entire time. It was so incredible. I just wish we would have booked with a different company because of the wait and mis Information on the details page. The guides in the water were great! The one on land just hung out in the van and didn't give any explanation what so ever as to why we we were running so behind.

Aloha Brandi, Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I'm glad to hear that this was the highlight of your trip and that you enjoyed our captain, guide and of course Kona's world-famous mantas. For this tour I would be happy to explain how our schedule works. The tour is described as 1 hour and 20 minutes. This begins from the time guest are asked to arrive, to the time the boat returns back to the dock. For guests who book at 9:00pm, this is considered the "start time" or time when they need to arrive by to start getting ready and prepped to go out on our boat. It usually takes between 30-40 minutes to get everyone fitted with snorkel gear, put on the right size wetsuit, finish signing any waivers and then receive a manta briefing/boat safety instructions before getting on the boat. This information can be found under the "What to Expect" description on our TripAdvisor and Viator listing. We also mention it in our confirmation email that "one of our staff will help get you fitted with a wetsuit, snorkel gear and provide instructions before going out on our boat to see Kona's friendly mantas." The boat is scheduled to take the 9:00 guests out at 9:40pm and bring them back to the dock by 10:20pm. I know that finishing the preparation stage early can feel like you are waiting for a long period of time or that the boat is running late, but your tour did go out and run as scheduled on the date you were booked with us. Average snorkel time is about 30 minutes but can go up to 40 minutes if sightings are slow. We find this to be the magic number as guest will either get too cold, become seasick or may be bored and ready to get back on the boat after the 30 minute window. Most other operators follow this 30 minute snorkel timeframe and some even do less. Companies that offer a longer snorkel time are much more expensive to go out with and have significantly more people packed on their boats. I hope this helps explain our tour schedule a bit better and that we might have the opportunity to have you both back out with us again. Well run, efficient, and friendly. Truly an experience of a lifetime. From the smooth check in and welcoming of Lihau, to the 5 minute boat ride to the site, to the expertise and guidance of Eli, the whole experience was amazing. Eli expertly positioned our small group of 6 to maximize our viewing of the manta rays and narrated fun facts during the experience. Very friendly and made us feel safe the whole time. It was great that there was a max of only 6 of us during our timeslot. Eventhough we connected with a larger group at the site, we really felt taken care of. It was so confusing to decide which outfitter to chose, but the experience with Hawaii Island Ocean Tours made you feel special. And the hot chocolate and cookies at the end was the best! The team knows how to take care of their guests.

Not many rays but a giant one.

Unfortunately we had bad timing. Didn't get to see too many manta rays. We had bristle worms (i think they're called) come out during our time and the guides thought that might be why we didn't get to see too many manta rays. I have swam with manta rays before and last time I got to see many more rays. This time they were few and far between however we did get to see 'Bertha' one of the biggest manta rays in Kona and she came right up to us, saving the show a bit. They ended up cancelling the tour after ours because of worms and not many rays. A tad disappointing I didn't get to show my husband how amazing it was last time but seeing the giant one was pretty cool. Crew was awesome, super knowledgable and obviously the manta rays are out of their control. Our guide in the water did everything he could to try to get more rays to come up just unfortunate timing for us. Wish we had another shot at it.
