Awesome excursion!

Our group of six (three couples) was last to be picked up for this all day tour. Our guide Dreu was welcoming and patient and after getting us settled in the comfy van off we went. He had great information to share about our sites, Hawaiian culture, history, and more. Open to questions and responsive to requests such as for heat as it started getting cooler. Not surprisingly, we encountered some rain but nothing too bad. Dreu was helpful about sharing info about the timing and conditions between stops, including bathroom facilities and other logistics. Didn't feel rushed but we also didn't have much time to linger. We got very lucky to see two honu (green sea turtles) at Punulo'o Black Sand Beach, eruption at Kiluea Summit Caldera (second visit, this after dinner so it was dark), and plenty of stars! Dreu made the trip accessible and fun and we would highly recommend this trip.

An evening on the Big Island

Our family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed this 12 hr tour with our tour guide Dreu. He is the best! He showed us incredible sights. He was very knowledgeable in Hawaiian culture and history. We really enjoyed his sense of humor and story telling. He kept us very entertained throughout the long drive to the black sand beach and Volcanoes National Park. This tour is a must from the coffee farm, the bakery, the black sand beach, volcanoes national park and the star gazing! We were blessed to see sea turtles, a lava flow at night and the brilliant stars in the sky! The food was pretty good too!

We had a great time with Aaron - he was knowledgeable, entertaining and patient with our group. The transport was comfortable with air-conditioning and it was great to relax as we travelled between stops. Aaron provided an abundance of interesting facts about Hawaii, the Big Island, volcanoes, stars throughout and we were never bored. We enjoyed all the stops even though the weather wasn't cooperating with us, we managed to get the most of it and couldn't imagine doing all of it without a guide. Each stop was great but we particularly liked the stargazing activity, which was amazing! The food and drinks provided on the trip was decent and we never felt hungry throughout. The pace was very relaxing, we didn't feel rushed at all. We felt like we were very much taken care of from beginning to end. I would totally recommend!

May Not See Stars - Would go for the Lava Lake after dark.

, May 2022
Prolly the most memorable was the visit to the tube, and volcano to see the glow and the lava lake after dark. I would definitely recommend bringing like an IPhone 13 Pro that can do time lapse to capture, as most cameras will not capture it. The guide was very very knowledgeable and a very good driver. This is a long day. My only gripe is that if you go, call ahead and say you are disabled to reserve better seats. We were a party of 3, and I never in my life rode with a group of more self centered people who only thought about their own comfort. I had the worst seat on the bus, on the rear wheel well for 12 hours. I’m no spring chicken - 57. A young couple in their 20s / 30s on the bus literally RAN to get a table of three (they were only 2) at the Volano House dinner table when they were able to 1) sit together for 12 hours on a bus. (Not on the rear wheel well). I know you can’t pick the people you ride with, but, I think the driver could have done a better job of trying to ensure everyone gets a comfortable seat. Or cycle the front seat next to the driver. Or get a bigger bus, and only partially fill it so everyone with large groups can be accommodated. My limited interaction was to ask for the rear door to stay open as I was dead in the back, we were parked, waiting for others to get on the bus. I had to insist the door remain open so some air could circulate. That part of the experience didn’t want me to tip, but, we did just because of the long drive where the driver excelled and their excellent grasp of Hawaiian lore. I would recommend as I don’t think you could rent a car and do this all in one day yourself. Again, call ahead and reserve your seats as you may have the bad luck of being with folks who have no team spirit.

Aaron was a very knowledgeable, considerate and wonderful tour guide to spend the day with touring the island. We enjoyed all the stops and information that we learned about regarding Hawaiian culture and how island history. Highly recommend this tour. It was long, about 13 hours in all- but we saw a lot of the island and it takes a while to drive from stop to stop. Prepare to dedicate an entire day to this adventure- well worth it!

Memorable Excursion

Our day started with an on time pick-up at our hotel and ended almost 13 hrs later with a drop-off in the same spot. What transpired during this time was a totally enjoyable, informative & entertaining excursion led by Dreu. His passion & knowledge was truly apparent in his narrative, story & legend telling, and tips he provided. We never felt rushed and appreciated the numerous restroom stops and Dreu’s attention to details. The van was comfortable and the USB port & cup holders were convenient. The weather was almost perfect with only light drizzle in Volcanoes National Park but after dinner the view of the “glow” & star gazing was clear & amazing, wow! The provided lunch, snacks & drinks, and dinner were all good. Tips: bring long pants & jacket for the evening; a small flashlight for walk through the lava tube; and if you don’t pack a jacket, one can be provided. The best part of a this truly memorable experience was we didn’t have to plan the itinerary or drive! Mahalo Dreu!

Our guide, Aaron, arrived on time early in the morning and with a smile. He made our tour amazing! He shared his extensive knowledge about the history of Hawaii, volcanoes, plants, coffee, and the constellations, always keeping it interesting and fun. We saw and heard about even more than we had planned. He made sure we were safe and warm and comfortable the entire day and into the night. The food was good, and the sights exceeded our expectations! Highly recommended! Our fellow bus-mates were an exceptional group as well.

Great tour, Aaron our guide for the day was very knowledgeable and ensured we were well take care of all day from ensure we had water to windbreakers to warm jackets as the weather changed throughout the day. Plenty of stops for restrooms, exploring, and enjoying the sights. We loved all stops, seeing the glowing lava at night, the Thurston Volcano tube, the black sand beach, and the star gazing were all favorites. Both lunch and dinner were very good. Van was spacious and comfortable. Would recommend this tour to first timers to the island and those who have been here before but want the benefit of local knowledge and a personalized experience.

Dru was the best tour guide ever adding Hawaiian stories, legends and reverence for Hawaiian ways of showing respect to the volcanoes while not missing the amazing commentaries on all there was to see. He did an amazing flow with the ever changing weather conditions.

Magnificent Volcano and Stargaze Tour
Linda_S
, Apr. 2022
Exceptional day, due to Drue our amazingly knowledgeable tour guide. He made the tour special by coming from a Hawaiian cultural and historical perspective. We heard history, culture and story about so many things. His extensive knowledge of volcanoes, birds, plants, geology, stars made it more that memorable, it made it spectacular. His organization, timeliness and how to access so many places was unbelievable. His good humor, and choice of tunes in the van made it fun We saw a lovely coffee farm, learned about coffee production, visited a black sand beach, a local bakery (yum) saw turtles, visited steam vents, lava tubes, rocks, múltiple volcanos vistas, saw rainbows. Had a great dinner at Lava House. Then he checked and saw we may be able to see the volcano. So we went back up the mountain. He gave us coats and rain coats. Yes yes yes, we saw the red glow and some lava. Magnificent. Then he took us to a dark place and pointed out many constellations, More stars than I’ve ever seen so clearly. Drue is the best tour guide and you woujd be lucky to tour with him. Mahalo Drue !!! Thank you a trillón times.

Dreu, our guide, provided us a great tour. He was a riot of fun and a wealth of information on the points of interest along the way. Funny, kind, and responsive as well. Learned a lot and enjoyed the whole day. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was amazing, and the nighttime glow spectacular! We even got to see some amazing stars before heading back to the hotel.

I read good reviews and that is why I booked it. The guide Drew definitely knew what he was talking about. The weather during the day was spectacular, which I hear is not always the norm. The knowledge gained was definitely worth it. Going back to the volcano after dinner and seeing the lava and then experiencing the stargazing portion was absolutely worth the money.
