Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive. Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population. Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases. Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.  Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

This was a great tour, though it is a long day so make sure you bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray! Rodrigo, the tour guide, was absolutely fantastic. He grew up in Chichen Itza before it became a UNESCO site, and speaks passionately and expertly about Maya culture and history. I learned so much during our tour of the grounds thanks to Rodrigo. He also knew how much we'd all want to have a good photo and was more than happy to patiently take (fantastic and strategically angled) photos for each and every couple/family in the tour group. The cherry on the top was the delicious lunch at a Maya restaurant (with gift shops) located on site where 50 Maya families live. I wish that food had been served at our hotel buffets!

Excellent Spanish speaking guides with very fast/minimal English translations

This was mostly a good 10-hour day trip with only 2 hours at the ruins. My husband has a bad back so we requested a seat near the front of the bus and Esther (the guide) graciously accommodated our request. Both guides were very knowledgeable and helpful but be aware they spend more than half their time speaking Spanish with occasional quick English narrations, which was a bit frustrating since we only understand English. If you only speak English, you may want to use a different tour company. A few other English-only speakers in our group were also disappointed listening to all the Spanish narratives. The driver was excellent and the motor coach was spacious and comfortable. This was not our first time at Chichen Itza so we would have liked more free time or another hour at he ruins on our own. We were picked up at our hotel about 20 minutes late but that was no problem. We were gone 10 hours with only 2 hours at the ruins. (Somehow we thought we'd be there 3 hours.) The price included a delicious and plenteous buffet lunch at a Mayan village and gift shop, home to fifty Mayan families. The initial cost was much less than most tours offered by the hotel. The price, however, did not include the $30US tax at the ruins. Their website says the $30US needs paid by credit card or pay pal, but the guide wanted cash, so be prepared to have the extra $30US or $600MX cash per person with you.

Great trip with a brilliant team

It was a great day with four main stops and lots of little delights along the way, and a detailed information, pictures and objects to look at, so you definitely get value for money. It is a long day (15 hours for us) but we’ll worth it. The tour guide Ruben was brilliant, entertaining, very knowledgeable, and clearly has a deep personal relationship with the people and places we visited. Comparing him to the other tour guides around us we definitely had the best experience. The bus drive George was also very good, getting us into places first, dropping us of right by the entrance and ready to collect us right at the exit. Small things but makes a difference to having to queue and hunt around for your bus.

Beware, this tour is a fraud. It is a total time waste. The tour operator have marketing strategy and tries selling all kinds of stuff. Lot of pick ups and drop offs.. Avoid booking with viator - waste of time and money.

Not What we bought
Eloise_P
, Dec. 2021
We are very disappointed with your company. We signed up for and paid for the Chitzen Itza Early Access, tequilla tasting, & Buffet. We paid extra to get the Deluxe tour. I wrote to you on Dec. 7, 2021 to find out where and when we would be picked up. I was given a time of 6:50 at our hotel. Nothing was said about our tour being changed. We purposely chose the early morning access because we like to avoid crowd and the temperature would be better earlier. By the time our tour got to Chichen Itza we arrived with 7 other busses to a crowded parking lot. The tour guide Super Frank, was pleasant and congenial, but was not the archeologist we were promised. The restaurant we were taken to for our buffet lunch was really not that good. The pork was well cooked but the beans were only sauce, the salad and cole slaw were without dressing. In all it was not a good lunch. I have to say that I doubt I would use or recommend Amigo tours to anyone. Personally, we felt we were cheated out of what should have been a wonderful experience to a location that was our sole reason for going to Cancun. P.S. None of what was wrong was in any part due to our tour guide Frank - he did his job well.

Dear Amig@ We appreciate your comments and regret the bad experience. We have taken note of the details of your comment to work on it. Due to the selected modality, the tour is done in a different way and it is not possible to arrive early to Chichen. We will work hard to improve. Dulce, Amigo Tours
