Nestled in the rocky wilderness of Nitmiluk National Park, Katherine Gorge is one of the Northern Territory’s natural treasures. After early morning pickup at your Darwin hotel, travel via comfortable coach approximately 3 hours inland while your knowledgeable guide shares commentary on the passing landscape. Stop to stretch your legs and pay tribute to fallen World War II soldiers at the Adelaide River War Cemetery. 

Once inside the park, take a refreshing swim in the natural rock pool at the base of Edith Falls (weather conditions permitting). Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the serene and picturesque surroundings. 

In the afternoon, embark on a 2-hour cruise down the river that winds between the sheer sandstone cliffs of Katherine Gorge. Learn about the area’s geologic history from your guide, and catch a glimpse of ancient Aboriginal rock art on the gorge walls. Keep an eye out for native wildlife including turtles, colorful birds and even crocodiles sunning on the riverbanks!

Hop back on the coach for a brief tour of the township of Katherine, heart of the Northern Territory’s cattle and agricultural industries. On the return drive to Darwin, pass through the historic gold mining town of Pine Creek and stop in Adelaide Creek for dinner at a local restaurant (own expense). Your full-day tour concludes with drop-off at your Darwin hotel in the evening.

Be prepared for a long day! Well worth the long drive. I had a refreshing dip at Edith falls. As time is short on this long excursion, our Guide and Driver, Rebecca suggested at the stop prior to the Falls, to get ready and put our bathers to maximise our time in the water. Tip appreciated! Katherine Gorge is stunning. The cruise commentary interesting. The only negative: I think those requiring wheelchairs should be discouraged from going on to the second gorge. The whole group had to wait ages in the heat and humidity while one man and his wife negotiated the rocks in each direction, even stopping for a rest on the way back without a thought for anyone else. This caused us to be very late back, not getting to our Hotel much before 2200hrs. (After an early pick up @0615, a very long day! We felt for our driver too!) However, all in all, a fabulous day trip!

This tour is highly recommended, it’s a big day but we’ll worth it. AAT kings were great, just need a bit more time at Edith Falls and for lunch at the Nitmiluk National Park both were a little rushed but other wise a fantastic day, Katherine gorge is magnificent

Swimming at Edith Falls very good, coach driver knowledgeable however that's a lot of kilometres in one day from Darwin. My personal preference would be wet season for the gorge. Total walking about and kilometre however not to hard.

Loved the gorge wasn't to fussed on the water fall or war cemetery Was not happy with our tour lady rebecca for a local lady who grew up here was not very vocal with information We asked to be dropped of near our hotel she said yesand never did My partner told her about a whistle sound up back of coach she found the problem her personal fan but put it on for the last hour of our trip so annoying Will not travel with AAT Kings tours in near future

Katherine Gorge was stunning. The road trip was very long and we felt that we spent the good part of the trip in the bus. Mark the driver was very informative and we could not fault his commentary and driving. Was disappointed that we could not swim at Edith Falls this should be made clearer on the swimming situation prior to booking the tour. Did not enjoy the lunch one bit and the last toilet stop was terrible.

This trip is extremely long plus despite me looking carefully through the supplied information there was no level of fitness mentioned. In Europe all trips are graded according to the amount of physical exertion used on it. 600m to and 600m back over slippery rocks to get to the gorge boat was simply too much walking for elderly or those with a disability. This should have been stated. The driver Mark was fantastic and 3 cheers for his knowledge of the tour and his terrible Irish jokes. He was great as were the three gals that were with him. Thank you

Was Avery long day but the bus was comfortable. Good stops the highlight was the Gorge. Nice lunch. Driver was knowledgeable but loves to talk- maybe too much. No opportunity to experience local towns. Overall a good day.

The Gorge is amazing. It was a long day. Unfortunately made longer as we were forced to stop for dinner, at our cost. Not the best meal. Would have preferred to get back to the hotel earlier and feed ourselves as it was a long long day.

I am not sure why that we were picked up in different buses and then had to wait a the Mantra for the actual bus - seemed unorganised and added to an already extremely long day. The 5 starts is for the stunning Katherine Gorge. We stopped at a terrible place for coffee (out of a machine) and then had 20 mins at a War Memorial at Adelaide River - this was an excessive amount of time. At Edith Falls we were given 45 mins… barely enough time to enjoy a swim. But grateful to cool down. Lunch was a delicious buffet. The cruise along the Katherine Gorge was the highlight. We were told that we had to purchase something at Katharine because our dinner stop was closed down (COVID). It took an excessively long time to drop off passengers, barely enough time to pack and get to the airport with no opportunity to have dinner. Overall the experience was worth the arduous trip

At the start of the tour we have a central meeting point where you meet another coach, this is so we can lessen the amount of hotels we pick-up guests from at the start of the day, as we appreciate that we are travelling a lot of distance when the tour commences. Each of our stops are timed to maximise the experience, and we try to balance this out as much as we can. Unfortunately, due to the current situation with Covid our dinner stop is closed down, which is why we advised you to purchase something in Katherine.
