The largest canyon in the Pacific, Waimea Canyon stretches 10 miles (16 km) long, 1 mile (1.6 km) wide and more than 3,600 feet (1,097 m) deep. Its cavernous expanse was created by the movement of water flowing down from Mount Waialeale over thousands of years. Your tour of this natural wonder begins with morning hotel pickup in a comfortable, air-conditioned coach. Learn about the history of Kauai and the island’s changing landscape as you make your way west.

Pass through the historic town of Hanapepe, a popular stomping ground for soldiers during World War II and the shooting location for many films and TV shows. Further down along Hawaii’s southern coast, stop at the Spouting Horn natural blowhole to watch ocean waves spray high into the air, and see the luxurious resorts that line the golden beaches of Poipu. Take a break from sightseeing with lunch at a local restaurant (own expense).

Watch the tropical landscape turn into a red clay desert of rocky basalt outcroppings as you drive up to the lip of Waimea Canyon. Stop at several vista points along the way to snap photos, and then soak in the breathtaking scenery at the top of the canyon as you gaze down into the cavernous expanse of layered red lava rock. Wind your way back out of the canyon, and relax on the return drive to your hotel.

Waimea Canyon

Kats was wonderful tour guide. She is funny and has many entertaining stories and facts. However, this is misleading. It is just a bus tour and you only get 30 mins at the canyon. The info said we get to walk around, so we thought we were actually going to hike in the canyon all day. It also stated no lunch but it should say that the bus stops at a place for you to buy your own lunch. We could have driven up to Waimea Canyon in our rental and did the exact same tour for $5 parking fee. Very disappointing. The canyon itself is amazing
Travel to the canyon on a foggy day

Joseph was our driver and tour guide. He was great. Gave us lots of information about the area we were in and about the island in general. We saw a lot of the beautiful island except it was foggy and rainy when we hit the canyon area. We waited some extra time thinking it would clear, but it didn't. But...the rest of the tour was great.

Not as expected

The Canyon itself it worth seeing. It is absolutely breath taking!! The tour and drive, could have been easily driven on our own. Although the driver was sweet and very nice, I felt that the money spent for this tour could have been used on something else. I would recommend seeing this Canyon, though!! Just take a rental car!!

What a great way to see the south side of the island and learn a lot about it! Our tour guide, Kats, was just AMAZING! So much fun, and the canyon is just beautiful!

Tour director was excellent - very funny and friendly. The sights we saw were amazing and it was great being given the history of places we were passing through - something you do not get if driving yourself. We also had plenty of time at each place we stopped and were not rushed at all.

The canyon views were great and enjoyed that part of the tour as it was my main focus. The lunch was very nivpce. However the bus driver didnt stop after the half day component which was my part of a combined tour to drop me off at my hotel. This meant that I went to the Fern Grotto. While this may not have bothered most people since it was basically free, I didnt want to go as I have been before and not particularly recommended going there as it is very overrated in my eyes. So I missed doing what I had planned for the afternoon and the driver was quite nonplussed about it all.

The tour itself was okay. I had thought that we would have several stops and go further into the canyon, but believe our trip was cut short because they were running 90 minutes late for a bus breakdown first thing in the morning. Best part of the trip was the driver/tour guide named Juan. Born and raised on Kauai, Juan had tons of great facts to share with us and he is a great story teller too.

Excellent tour but, sadly, the weather Gods were against us and we didn't see the canyon due to low, very low cloud lol. All in all a great tour, though.

Wonderful guide/driver well informed and able to share with his visitors. Only confusion was we didn't realize we were on what was called the 'half-day' tour the website indicated a longer time but joined the group for the lunch on our own at Joe's at the golf course which we much enjoyed. The tour accomplished all we had hoped it would, thanks.

Lukia was a great tour bus driver to Waimea Canyon. What I liked about how she ran the tour, we didn't just go to see Waimea Canyon and come back. She took us to a lot of the local destinations along the way, like Spouting Horn, Kauai Coffee Plantation, and others. She was humorous and helpful. The canyon was breathtaking once we arrived, even on a slightly cloudy day. it looks like something straight out of movie for sure! An enjoyable day for sure on this tour.

They gave me the wrong start time and then almost left without me so I had to chase them down the street... only to be yelled at in front of the entire bus for being late even though I came out earlier than the time they gave me. The driver had a bit of an attitude about it. The tour itself was ok but not worth the price. This trip was the low point of my trip.

This tour was good, the canyon was not very clear on the morning we went, but that's not the tour fault, it gets cold up there so take a jacket. Felt a little rushed but not too bad. Not sure it was worth the money if you have a car you can do it a lot cheaper. But overall it was ok

Damien was our tour guide - he did an excellent job. We were not going to do the river part of this excursion because one of us has extreme motion sickness - he said it would be smooth and said we would enjoy it. He was so right. It was everything we hoped for and more.

Have done this tour before and had to do it again. The canyon is fantastic. It's only spoilt by the short period of time spent at the viewing point (just 30 minutes). The blow hole stop on the way to the canyon is unimpressive, as are the stops at sights where films have been short. The extended shop at an overpriced tourist retail outlet is particularly unwelcome, but seems to be unavoidable on these sort of trips. However warm it is at sea level, you should take your coat for the canyon viewing deck as it will be cold and windy. You may also find that every photo you take is different due to the constantly changing weather patterns. If you've opted for the river trip and grotto extension, prepare to be underwhelmed by the grotto and to be forced to hula dance on the boat trip back. The view of the final water fall is also unimpressive, but the drivers are happy to transport your luggage on the bus and drop you off at the airport at the end of the tour if this is your last day on the island. The mid-trip meal is at a reasonably priced restaurant ($20ish), but it lasted a little long for my liking and you should be prepared in case you have a comedy driver. If so, you may find that the tour is interactive and that you'll be expected to get involved in the group discussions and hilarity all day long.
