Become a jungle explorer for the day on this rafting tour through Costa Rica’s rain forest. Your guide will pick you up at your La Fortuna hotel for the scenic drive to the winding Rio Balsa. You’ll receive a short safety training at the launch site and gear up with a paddle, life vest and helmet. If it’s your first time rafting, not to worry — your guide will demonstrate paddling techniques and share basic rafting tips. No need to bring a camera and risk getting it wet, as a photographer will accompany you on the trip, and you’ll have the option to purchase photos at the end of the tour.

Next, set out on the river and begin your 6-mile (10-km) descent through the rapids. Water levels vary depending on rainfall, so the river may be shallow or deep. The first half of the ride is the most challenging. Prepare to get wet as your guide helps you navigate Class III rapids like the Congo Loco and Rock around the Croc (don’t panic, as no crocodiles are actually found here).

Take a break after successfully clearing these rapids with a riverbank pit stop and snack of fresh fruit. Relax in the shade of towering trees or enjoy a refreshing swim in the river. Hop back in your raft for the continued journey down more mellow, Class II rapids. Soak up the passing tropical scenery and keep an eye out for native rain forest residents including monkeys, sloths, butterflies and colorful birds.

At the end of your rafting journey, step back onto solid ground and enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant. You can shower and change into dry clothes before the return drive to La Fortuna, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.

First time rafting!

This was our first time white water rafting and it was epic! This company was fantastic…picking us up from our hotel, outfitting us in gear, and showing us how to paddle in the variety of circumstances we may have encountered. Diego was the first guide that shared details and then broke us up into groups. He was very informative and shared information about the countryside and towns that we passed on the way to the river. Sergio was very funny and taught us how to be safe in the rafts. Our family of 4 had our own raft with our fearless guide Jilbin. He was hilarious and very personable and helped us every step of the way. We were able to see sloths, bats, and many different birds while rafting. After the first 45 minutes of class 3 rapids, we slowed down quite a bit and took a nice break to have fruit and to swim. There were many cows and bulls at our “rest stop” and the kids took turns feeding them the leftover fruit. We then rafted along towards the end and my son, along with some others, jumped in and floated along with the rafts. When we reached the end, we hopped in the bus to their beautiful facility and had a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch before we were driven back to our hotel. All in all, an excellent time and would DEFINITELY recommend this company!

I felt like this...

I felt like this excursion was so fun. The instructors are very well-trained and the river is so exciting and warm. the places we stopped for fruit and lunch were also great. I think the only thing that could be improved was the transportation. we stood around for an hour in the beginning and no one bothered to tell us we were waiting for another group.

A very memorable day in Costa Rica

After several raining days, the water level was high and the rapids were huge. We signed up for class III/IV rafting which was cancelled due to the river condition. We were disappointed initially that we had to settle with something less challenging but was pleasantly surprised after we got started. The tour guide told us that it was more than normal class CC III/IV rafting tuor. It took us 50minutes to complete the normally 90 minutes course. The tour guide and the camera man were amazing. We had a very memorable day. Loved every minute of it.

Fun family adventure

Rolo was a great tour guide - very experienced and made the adventure safe and so much fun! We are a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 teens - and found it to be challenging but not too much. The first part of the rapids were challenging and then the last was more scenery. We stopped for lunch had a great buffet with many local foods like rice and beans and plantains. We also went over to a stop with a small waterfall and the kids were able to swim. All in all a great adventure! Highly recommend
