So much more than chocolate

This is more than a chocolate tour. We tasted delicious fresh fruit that is also grown onsite - papaya, pineapple, carambola (aka star fruit) just to name a few. We tasted fresh orange juice and sugarcane water. The walk through the cacao trees is slow placed and our guide explained how the cacao transforms from a seed to the raw cacao powder that will be used for commercial chocolate production. At the end, we tasted fresh brewed coffee (also grown there!), Cacao bites and hot chocolate. You can purchase fresh coffee, processed cacao bites, honey and pure vanilla (wanna guess where it's grown?). Don't forget to say hi to Maria, the juvenile sloth that lives there.

This tour was amazing! First, we were lucky enough to see a baby sloth hanging around nearby. We tried several fruits, the portions were plenty and very generous. Most importantly, the family is the sweetest. They’re very humble and friendly. You’ll feel very welcomed and you’ll enjoy all the food and drinks you’ll get to try. We had banana, papaya, guanabana, pineapple, star fruit, orange, mango, freshly squeezed sugar cane drink, homemade hot chocolate, coconut rum, coffee, and chocolate. You get a lot of different things to try for just $25, it was awesome! I will definitely be back again :)
They went above and beyond

Amazing! This did go into all the details of the process of chocolate and we got to see and taste each stage. But we were given sooo many different fruits and drinks to try aswell. Plus saw a sloth! It was a really well rounded tour. All the family helped on it, it was lovely. And the main guy was super funny.
Book this tour - you won’t regret it!

Probably the best part of our time in La Fortuna! This tour was amazing - definitely come on an empty stomach. We booked a chocolate tour but I’d call this more of a farm tour (fruit and chocolate). We walked around the farm learning about the different plants and tasting the different fruits. Honestly it was so delicious - best fruit ever! We had bananas, soursop, mango, orange, sugarcane, etc and that was before we even got to the chocolate. Lastly, we walked through the chocolate side of the farm and got to see the process of making chocolate - from drying the beans to crushing them into paste. To end the tour we were all given hot chocolate, coffee, biscuits and chocolate they made themselves. It was all delicious! This was such a highlight of our trip - we even got to see a baby sloth as well as a hummingbird nest with baby birds. Do yourself a favor and book this tour - you won’t regret it!
Amazing family experience!

I walked away educated… about chocolate and the eco-system of plants, birds and insects that live in harmony to produce exceptional Costa Rican Cacao. Not only were we educated about chocolate, but got to taste tropical fruits that balance the cacao eco-system… papaya, pineapple, bananas, sugar cane juice, home grown and freshly roasted coffee. OH… I forgot to mention the chocolate… Delicious chocolate… as cacao and home grown vanilla squares and also the most delicious hot chocolate. Come hungry and leave satisfied!

Fun & Educational, with great snacks!

Josue & his family are clearly passionate about their farm, take pride in their hard work & enjoy sharing their knowledge with other people that are so lucky to visit this gem. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the farm, seeing the different plants & their proceeding , the interactive activities, and of course all the taste testing. There was a large selection of fruits we got to enjoy during the tour, and of course chocolate and coffee, vanilla & sugar produced right there. Excellent! We 10/10 recommend this for teens & adults.
Highly recommend

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
