Covering 33 square miles (85 square km) and reaching depths of up to 200 feet (61 meters), Lake Arenal provides an important source of hydroelectric power to much of the country.
When you arrive at the shores of this beautiful body of water, gear up with a life vest, paddleboard and a single long paddle. Get a lesson on how to mount you board, rise to your knees, stand up and paddle, and then practice a few times on solid ground.
Hop aboard a boat and ride to the center of the lake, where you’ll try out your new moves in the water. Once you get the hang of standing up, you’ll be gliding along the lake in no time. Feel like you’re walking on water, while relishing the spectacular scenery of verdant hills and the magnificent crater of Arenal Volcano towering in the distance.
