Cancelled Tour

I only rated it one star as I didn't actually go. I cancelled my trip in advance but then got a call from the poor bus driver on the day asking where we were. It made me feel physically ill. 5 minutes later I got an email from the tout provider saying I was getting charged the full amount as I was a no show. I cancelled as we chose this tour as pick up and drop off was from our hotel. This then changed. I know you said it was only a short tram ride away but it's not what I booked. I didn't fancy having to bus it home for 2 hours, then get to the tram, wait, tram ride, walk with 2 sleeping children. So, it seems I have a very expensive walk around the city that day.

We regret that this guest actually didn't cancel their tour in advance of the tour date. While we have been sent correspondence showing a message sent to TripAdvisor, we regret that this wasn't actually a cancellation, which could very easily have been arranged had the guests simply used the "cancel" function on their app, or had they simply messaged us directly. Had the guest contacted us to discuss their options, we would very happily have arranged to collect them from their hotel and would have dropped them off back there, but unfortunately the chain of communication from the guest was limited at best. It's a great shame that this has resulted in a 1-star review, as with some better communication from the guest the situation could have been much better handled and a better outcome for all would have resulted.

Nice variety of activities

The tour itself was really great! Got to do a variety of activities and we did not feel rushed anywhere. The penguin viewing was fun, but we actually saw more closely the penguins when we walked back to the visitor center and saw them scurrying back to their borrows for the night. The reason for the loss of one star was some girls on the tour who, after the first stop, basically "stole" our seats on the bus, relegating us to the back.

This was a very good tour, just a small group which is ideal when doing trips. We had a problem with the pick up as they only go to certain hotels, so we had to catch a taxi from and to our hotel, which just adds to the cost of the trip. We were at the Bayview on the park hotel, which is about a 50 minute walk to the centre all the pick ups seemed to be either for the centre or the other side, maybe you could look at having a drop off nearer to this area of hotels as coming home at 11.30 at night nobody wants to be walking home? The guide was good , did feel a little rushed at times and was a bit erratic with her driving. The wildlife centre was good as was the farm, the tea and cakes was a nice break and enjoyed by all, could maybe have stayed here (farm) a little longer. The views of the sea were amazing we nearly didn't get to see the pyramid rock and its great views as the driver wasn't sure she wanted to go, fortunately she changed her mind!!! The penguins were brilliant when you get to the boardwalk and it splits to main viewing and special viewing hang round the gate to special viewing as once the penguins start to arrive they open this gate to all and this is where the penguins walk up to their nests. If you want to see them come out of the sea you do need to go to the beach.

Well worth it! The bus fit max 20 people including the driver. We made pit stops along the way, but to be fair, these are simply fillers for the main event! Penguins! We booked the tour that included a private ranger, and boy was that the right choice. This allowed us to have our own private area along side the beach, binoculars and headsets (ranger talking and explaining). PS: August is windy and cold! Bundle Up! PPS: No photography allowed, and they yell (nicely) for you to put them away!

The trip began with a rather punctual pick up by our tour guide, Rob. Overall, the trip was efficient with enough time for each attraction. I think it was worth the while to get the Koala option to be able to get close with the furry beast! Even though it was raining most of the time, Rob's suggestion of a disposable parka worked well. My only thought was that we did not have much time to take a sip at the cafes in the various attractions - it was a very cold day! Maybe some 10 or 15 mins extra at each stop would have been good.
