Pickup is only available from the list of hotels provided upon checkout. Your pickup will be between 10am-11am (May–July) or 11am-12pm (Aug–Apr), depending on which hotel you selected. Your exact meeting time will be provided after a booking is placed. This tour returns to Melbourne between 9pm-12am midnight depending on the season.
Your Phillip Island adventure begins with late morning pickup at selected Melbourne hotels in an air-conditioned minivan equipped with onboard Wi-Fi. Your first stop on your Phillip Island day trip is Brighton to see the historic Brighton Beach bathing boxes, spend time at the beach and take some time to admire these iconic landmarks.

Continue to Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, where you'll learn about an exotic array of Australian animals, including cuddly koalas, and lend a hand during feeding time. Included in your visit here is the spectacular “Conservation in Action” wildlife show, which showcases a number of lesser-known Australian species in a series of interactive and engaging ranger presentations.

Afterward, head to the island’s southwestern coast for dramatic views of the Nobbies and Seal Rocks, home to Australia’s largest fur seal colony.

For an enchanting finale to the day, make your way to a local beach for the famous Penguin Parade. As dusk falls, watch from a viewing platform as hundreds of adorable little penguins — also called fairy penguins, as these are the smallest in the world — emerge from the ocean and waddle across the sand and shrub to their nearby burrows. Opt for the Penguin Parade Plus or Guided Ranger Tour upgrade for an even closer view of this marvelous spectacle (see Itinerary below for more details).

Once the penguins are safely tucked into their burrows for the night, relax on the approximately 1.5-hour return drive to Melbourne, where you’ll be dropped off back at your departure point.

The penguins are adorable
anish
, Apr. 2022
The tour was fun and the guide knowledgable. It did feel rushed at times, but it was for a good reason. The purpose of the tour is to see the penguins and getting there early is key to getting a good spot and enjoying the penguin center. I would pay extra to get the Plus or Underground viewing, you get really up close and personal. The animal sanctuary was OK. I would have done the evening penguin parade tour only, but it is not operating at the moment.
icon Response from Host , Apr. 2022
Thanks very much for your review, Anish! We're sorry that as we emerge from our Covid-hibernation we're not yet able to operate the express tour, but we look forward to doing so again in the months ahead. Thanks very much for joining us on tour & best wishes.

Watching the little penguins going to burrows. They spend a lot of time deciding if it's safe to come out of the water and the cross the beach.

Good Trip - Scenery, Kangaroos and Wallabies
Denise_E
, Mar. 2022
The trip gave a good overview of some scenic places in Melbourne. My fellow trip goers were good company. This trip could have been improved with better communication (eg knowing when you're next stop will be and when the next washroom break will be). It would also have been great to have lively music in the bus and a bit more engagement from our tour guide. He was very nice and responsive. Note to future travellers, you most likely won't see the seals and you'll only get a good look at the penguin parade with the upgraded tickets.
icon Response from Host , Mar. 2022
We're always a disappointed when a guest's experience with us is not worthy of 5 stars. This is because our whole reason for existing is to provide touring experiences that are memorable for all the right reasons. It is definitely important that our guests are aware of how long it is until the next stop and bathroom opportunity, and we'll be discussing this with our guide to ensure that they are better at communicating this in the future. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Denise, and we're glad that your Great Ocean Road tour hit the 5-star benchmark!

Great Experience
Carrina_C
, Mar. 2020
Our guide, Corey, was very knowledgeable and we were impressed with the prompt pickup at a hotel about a block from where we were staying. We always had a clear understanding of what to expect at each of our stops including what time we needed to be back to the bus. We especially appreciated the outline of when we'd have opportunities to eat and the fact that we could order food at the animal sanctuary in advance. The stops along the way to Philip Island were nice and helped to break up the long drive, but the real highlights were seeing the Nobbies and, of course, the Penguin Parade. We're glad we opted for the ranger tour because we learned a lot from our guide, Michael, and appreciated the special viewing area for our group. There were only 6 people in our tour. It was great to learn about the conservation work being done on the island to protect the penguins and other native species. Watching the penguins come in from the ocean was a truly magical experience that we would highly recommend.

Excellent tour

Long but very enjoyable tour. Phillip Island was wonderful - really enjoyed seeing the penguins and Mike C, our guide, gave us great tips for where to go to get the best views during the parade of the penguins. Brighton Beach and the Moonlit Sanctuary were also great - lots of animals and very active. A long day but well worth it! Mike was a great host and guide. Highly recommend.

Magical Penguins
GWYNETH_S
, Mar. 2020
This trip was absolutely magical- the penguins being the highlight of course! We paid for the guided ranger walk and talk and it was worth every penny! She was so excited! And so knowledgeable! And the seating was prime location to where the penguins come out of the ocean. One little fellah went rogue and came straight towards me and waddled under my seat for a shortcut LOL It was a wonderful night. I was really frustrated with the stupid people taking photos when we had been explicitly told that the penguins have very sensitive eyes. I would have LOVED a picture but followed the rules. They should be thrown out and made to delete their pictures. We loved this trip! Words cannot describe how beautiful these little creatures are. We also saw other wildlife on the reserve especially wallaby’s.

Incredible day in Melbourne
David_F
, Mar. 2020
Our guide Paul took us on a wonderful tour of Melbourne, specifically Brighton Beach, Moonlit Sanctuary and Phillip Island. This small group tour was much preferred over the large group tours that the cruise ship offered. Paul gave us so much information about Melbourne and Australia. We saw so much beautiful scenery and Paul allowed for just the right amount of time at each photo opportunity. Unfortunately, it rained the evening of the penguin journey and because of lightning, the viewing had to be delayed because of safety concerns, but we were still able to view, for a short period, a few of the penguins make their way to their burrows. An incredible experience. I highly recommend this tour if you visit Melbourne.
