We really enjoyed this tour that investigates the American slavery history from available facts. Our guide Jeff is very passionate about this topic and eager to share many of the stories from Belle Meade, and in their greater historical context which we really appreciate. It made us realize that this piece of history is not that far from today at all. The tour left us with a lot to think about. And, the wine tasting at the end topped off the experience. They have great selections for a hot day. Will be back again next time we visit Nashville.

This was one of three tours in Nashville that my mother and I experienced in one day and one of my favorites. Beware that this tour does NOT include a tour of the mansion. We opted for this tour to gain more of the history of the slaves on the property rather than walking around the inside of the family’s house—and I’m glad we did. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and I would recommend this tour to everyone. The wine tasting at the end was a great perk as well! If you want to see the inside of the mansion, I would recommend getting both tours because this one is worth it!

More of a history lesson than seeing actual sites…. We saw a slave cabin that wasn’t original to the property then we walked in an area that used to be the informal dining area or kitchen the family used and the slaves worked and the guide took questions. He was really knowledgeable, but talked really fast.

Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and asked very pertinent questions to make us think; to try to see situations as the slaves and their masters did. I have certainly read about slavery but never thought about it quite this way. My four star rating was only because some of the locations in which our guide was speaking, like the carriage house and kitchen, were echoing and it rather difficult for me to hear everything. Really enjoyed this experience.
