Awful, horrible, terrible

This trip was truly terrible. Please note this trip is run by Cajun Encounters, not Viator. I selected this trip because I had read reviews of other people missing the pick up window and I didn’t want to have that worry on my vacation. As per my picture, we arrived at the pick up location at 9:36am for 10am departure. When we arrived there wasn’t a bus so I called the company. They said they had just tried calling me (my phone didn’t ring) and the bus had waited 15 minutes for us and then left. The customer service agent continued to argue with me for several minutes until I asked her what could be done. She told me there was another pick up at 10am and maybe we could make that stop. It probably would have been best to start with this information as my husband and I called an Uber and were able to make it to the final stop at 9:59. Oak Alley was beautiful, we had a wonderful relaxing time. They told us to be back at the bus by 3pm. Naturally, we were on the bus by 2:45pm and the tour bus driver counted the number of passengers twice and then pulled away at 3:03pm. However about half way thru our trip back to New Orleans the bus seemed to turn around. We drove all the way back to Oak Alley because we had left 2 passengers there. We didn’t get back to New Orleans until 5:45pm. Please find another tour company to take you to Oak Alley if you choose to visit.

Nice for a day away

I don’t feel like the tour of the home was worth the price. The best part of the tour was the restaurant and the gift shop. Also, the driver was great which is why I gave it three stars.

You’re paying for transportation because the entry fee is only $25 to the plantation. Tour was about accomplishments of slave/plantation owners. Glorified their rich lives. Not much about the slaves or their hardships. Not really educational. Plantation stuff was original. Slave stuff was recreated/rebuilt. Made to look very nice. Slave quarters clean and lined with beautiful oaks. Made me sick. Wrong perspective. Disgusting. They have a LONG way to go here.

Simply Beautiful

The spectacular driveway and beautifully preserved home is only one reason to visit Oak Alley Plantation. It is a two sided tour, learning about the early days of the house, plantation and a genuine insight into the life of a plantation slave, to the tale of the last owner who arranged for her home to be preserved in time. A real eye opening visit. The cafe and shop is wonderful as is the Pecan Liqueur
