An Experience
Evette_B
, Aug. 2022
My experience with the actual tour was very nice. The reason why I did not provide a 5 star, the bus ride to the plantation was awful, there were no rear shocks. We felt every bump, pothole, you name it. Also, it was hard learning about how my ancestors endured the pain and suffering without payment or freedom for years and how this Roman/Stewart family profited from their pain, at the same time it was somewhat rewarding knowing how each of those families endured their own pain with death and financial losses

Very enjoyable excursion

This was a great little excursion. Our bus driver, KP, was great - very personable, interesting stories, and a great example of southern hospitality. Oak Alley House tour was very interesting and captivating. Thank you for the great time during our visit to New Orleans!

Nice, comfortable ride on...

Nice, comfortable ride on the way going to and from the plantation. Lots of information given on the tour of the house. It was nice that we were able to explore the grounds on our own.

They glitz up the experience but leave out reality

It was just ok for me. I wish they would have gone into more historic details about the treatment of the slaves so people could get a realistic view of what people went through during that time. It's more glitz and glamor if you ask me.

Beautiful plantation - not the greatest time management

The tour was nice and the Oak Alley Plantation was beautiful. However, my biggest complaint was the logistics -- the bus picked us up 45+ minutes late (without any explanation why), plus at the last hotel pickup, the driver spent another few minutes going to the bathroom. So we had a really late start, in turn, we didn't have much time to enjoy the Plantation grounds because (1) passenger needed to get back for another tour. We had about 15-20 minutes before our inside tour started and maybe another 15 minutes afterwards. We didn't have much time to go to the gift shop, roam the plantation grounds and/or to see inside the slave homes, as I believe there are tours for those which we could not do because we had to leave. Although the Plantation home was beautiful, we really wanted to see how the slaves lived too. Only one slave home was open, the others were part of the tour. Overall, I felt that our time was extremely limited and felt very rushed, unfortunately ruining the experience.

Bumpy ride

The bus getting to the plantation is the most uncomfortable ride. The driver was really nice but the ride was horrible. A couple of times I felt nauseated from the super bumpy ride.

The upkeep of Oak Alley Plantation is amazing. Beautiful grounds. We appreciate the tour from our tour guide. I also enjoyed the cute, tiny little swamp lizards that came out to say hello. Thank you. Kelsey H KH God is love❤️

Beautiful grounds and gardens. Docents very friendly and had great knowledge about the property. Gift shop was cool and filled with interesting gifts, books, even a homemade voodoo doll!

K.P. Was a great tour guide. We appreciated his stories on the way to the plantation tour. He made sure we knew where to go so we didn’t miss anything when we arrived.

Great tour, feelings of sadness.

Seeing the slave quarters was very moving, it made me angry and sad that humans could own other humans. Especially since some were their flesh and blood. The property was beautiful and the tour was great.

Puck up 1.5 hours late, then got puncture, very disorganised to deal with this. Took hours by which time we were brought back to New Orleans missed tour and my afternoon was also ruined. Last day of my holiday ruined by this company!

Oak Alley is stunning. Ann gave an informative history of the mansion. The grounds are rich with history. KP was our bus driver. He was happy and caring and had a lot of great information as well.

Informative and educational

Great to learn more about the Deep South’s sugar cane plantation & slaves practices. Driver KP was friendly and informative - despite his (fast) speed on the way back to downtown New Orleans (for his afternoon tour and we had a full car).

Tour guide told the story with passion from owners who lived there to the slaves who worked there. Very informative and can ask questions at any time.

Good Experience

The experience itself was great. Our driver was amazing, the tour was very informative. The experience says 4 hrs (2 hrs of commute) you spend about an hour or so at the actual plantation & the actual house tour is about 30 mins. But overall we really enjoyed it.

Our bus driver PJ was awesome! Funny, informative and accommodating!! Our guide Pam at the Laura Plantation was everything! She deserves a raise! Funny, informative, amazing story teller! You can tell she truly loves her job and loves to research all the information! Fantastic! It was sad seeing where how my ancestors were treated and lived but I enjoyed learning!

The house tour was great! The guide (cannot remember his name, has fascination with top hats) did a great job and was great at answering questions.
