Great, unique tour! Esteban was an amazing tour guide, full of good information, positive energy, and fun. Beautiful scenery, waterfall, people, and village! Would highly recommend this to those physically able to make a long walk through river rocks, mud, and water. Bring good water shoes!

The most memorable moment was experiencing the waterfall. Very beautiful and serene. The tour guide was patient, and necessary to navigating foreign terrain. Would do again.

This trip was AMAZING!!! Our guide Esteban was A++ fun, friendly, knowledgeable, engaging. The boat ride to the waterfall was a exciting journey. The hike to the waterfall was fun and challenging and then the waterfall itself was beautiful. Visiting the Embera village is something we will carry with us forever. The people were so welcoming and sharing their culture with us was a gift. We bought some lovely items from the families. This is a must do in our opinion!!! Note… You are in the rainforest jungle so be prepared for rain. We got poured on and were soaked, but that was part of the experience and we loved it!!! We did bring dry clothes to change into. Bathroom facilities were very nice at the village!

This was memorable! My tour operator was the ultimate! He transported us from the hotel and back, making sure he took care of us the entire time. Both my operator and the tour director helped me up and made sure that I was OK. Even the Embera people in the indigenous village were very kind and loving. The children were so intrigued, they wanted me to hug me! This made me feel even more welcomed! Children usually know who they feel comfortable with and when they feel safe. This almost made me cry. Unfortunately I fell a couple of times and sprained my wrist very badly. The food was amazing, and fresh most of all! It took me some time to realize that I was better off barefoot, too. I definitely spent money and wish I had more time and money for buy their beautiful handmade gifts…well I hope so. All of my wrist still hurts, I’m still glad I went. This was an adventure for sure!

Learning from indigenous people is essential to a thriving environment and a thriving civilization… Back to yourself, back to the original roots and wisdom with indigenous community Emberá. Thank you for the amazing and unique experience! Be prepared for the walk over mud, water and rocks to a beautiful and pristine waterfall!

Girlfriends trip

What a fantastic exhausting totally fun day. myself and four other women in their late 50's laughed and moaned but well worth it. It was a bit of a hike but felt great. Cesar and his helper were wonderful. The village was informative and the people so lovely, and generous, food was excellent. It was cool and rainy and the canoe ride made it feel like an adventure.

The natural beauty of Panama and its people

This was an exceptional experience, strongly recommended - read on for details... Here's our trip in more detail than what you can find from the tour descriptions - note that your specific trip iteniary may be different. We booked a private tour and our driver Dan was waiting downstairs at our hotel promptly at 8am. We drove out to Chagres National park in his Toyota Rav4. All along the way, Dan engaged with us in conversation, talking about recent developments in Panama, as well as what needs improvement. He pointed out sights along the way, and talked about other things we may be interested in seeing in Panama on our vacation. I don't recall exactly but it seemed like we were on the road for an hour and half. We arrived at Puerto Corotú, which is a small rudimentary port of sorts. Our guide Dan changed into water shoes, grabbed some fruits and water, and led us down the embankment towards the Chagres River, where a slew of Embera wooden canoes with small outboard engines was waiting for visitors. Each canoe is manned by an engine driver in the back and a spotter at the front, both Embera tribe members in traditional clothing. We motored upstream along the Chagres River, taking in the beautiful rainforest scenery along the way, watching people fishing, washing clothes, and kids playing on the banks. The boat trip took about 30 minutes and we docked at the entrance of a tributary, and the spotter lead us off on a trail along the creek, with Dan following behind everyone to make sure no one fell behind. The trail was mostly bare dirt, with some very rocky parts, and involved a few water crossings. After mounting one final boulder, we were greeted by the sight of the waterfall and the pool below it. We didn't go for a swim, just waddled around in the shallow parts of the pool. The water was very clear and would have certainly made for a refreshing swim. The hike back to the canoe took about 15-20 minutes, though time always seem to pass more quickly on the return trip. The canoe then took us to the Embera village, which we had passed along the way up the river. A group of Embera folks came out to greet us from the river. At the village, we were treated to an explanation of some aspects of the Embera people, how they live, their customs, and a light lunch of fried fish, those heavenly fried plantain round things, and fresh fruit. Dan made sure we had water and urged us to help ourselves to more food. Rolling out of the lunch hut, we carried ourselves to the humongous entertainment hut, where the tribe members performed some music and danced for the visitors. The tribe members then invited the visitors to join them in dancing - we had a blast and really enjoyed ourselves. After these official events were over, we browsed and purchased some craft items and took a stroll through the village. Dan was always around to help take group photos, help translate, and answer any questions. A group of tribal people walked us down to the river and waved goodbye as we motored away down the river wearing comical orange life floaties. At the car, Dan helped us do a final check that everyone has their belongings, including phones, and we drove back to Panama City, with more conversations about Panama and Central America along the way. In all, it was a very good tour. We didn't find it physically demanding and our tour guide Dan provided the perfect balance between being helpful and letting us experience things directly. We strongly recommend this experience to anyone who has a day in the Panama City area and is looking to explore the natural beauty of Panama and its people.

Best experience in Panama

One of the best experience so far in Panama. Been looked after but not too intrusive and at the best decency and knowledge by Esteban. He gave us time and space to enjoy ourselves but in the same time we felt we were in good professional and fun hands. Thank you once again until we meet again. Ioana & Gabriel

I can't say enough good things about this journey. This was my first time going into a rainforest and getting to relax at the waterfall was incredible along with riding in a wooden canoe and seeing the beauty of the river. The Embera people welcomed us with a smile while educating, entertaining, and serving us a delicious lunch. The performance and souvenirs were completely authentic. Fully recommend!

Wonderful experience! Pictures don’t do justice to the amazing beauty surrounding you! We were treated with utmost kindness from the villagers. The one thing I wish I had known beforehand was how many hungry dogs I would see in the parking lot. I would have brought dog food. I pray a spay/neuter program will form in this area.

Where do I start? The tour guide was horrible. His name is Demetri. From the very beginning, his energy was OFF. Didn’t say much if anything at all the entire hour ride to the Chagres National Park. I had to ask questions to get him to speak. I’m so used to tour guides that hit you with their knowledge from the beginning and get you excited for the tour. When we met up with another tour guide and his group, only THEN did he try to speak with us more about the tour. At this point, we listened to the other tour guide because of his energy!!! He was captivating and passionate about his craft. NOT DEMETRI. Due to the rain we weren’t able to enjoy the waterfall portion of the tour. However, the experience with the indigenous tribe was well worth the money we paid!!! So I can only imagine what it would be like with the waterfall included. The food was amazing if you like fried fish and plantains. The little handcrafts are amazing! Do not lowball these people. They work hard and sacrifice a lot for the money they make off of the crafts. The experience was amazing. On the way back home, me and my gf were in the van with Demetri again….Once again, he was silent and didn’t ask any questions about the trip or even tried to make conversation. I read about the tour guide Cesar before we booked this trip. I wish we would’ve got that guy! Anyways, please book this amazing tour!!!! But request anyone BUT DEMETRI.

Our driver/guide Dan was very knowledgeable. Bring water shoes or your shoes will get wet when you journey to the waterfalls (bring change of clothes and towel too) The Embrera tribe were very hospitable. They served the freshest tilapia I ever had. Bring cash to buy crafts/souvenirs from the tribe.

Once in a lifetime experience

Amazing tour, amazing tour guide. It was so interesting to learn about their village. They welcomed us with open arms and they made the whole tour for us. You get to eat a typical lunch they make which was fresh caught tilapia and tostones. They had a dance ceremony. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. You also get to visit a waterfall as well.
