Make your way to the Te Vara Nui Village on Rarotonga's Muri Beach at 5pm. You'll meet your guides and get a turou welcome introduction call into the village gates.
Visit the History Hut, where you'll learn about the Polynesian people's legends, navigation techniques, cannibalism, warrior weapons, and other aspects of history. See where the High Chiefs of the tribe meet in the Marae hut, then visit the Witchdoctors Hut to learn about traditional Maori medicine. In the Fishing Hut, learn about the ancestral fishing methods, tools, and talk about pearl farming.
Walk through the botanical gardens to the Costume Hut to see traditional Polynesian costumes and learn about weaving and Tapa-making. In the Caving Hug, see the ancient carving tools and get an opportunity to drum the pate's, the traditional Cook Islands drum. Try some dance steps to accommodate the warriors' drumming. Your last stop is the Conconut Hut, where you can see all the various uses for the utilitarian island fruit, the coconut.

Itinerary
Your village tour starts with a "Turou" welcome introduction call into the village gates, where you will be escorted by the knowledgeable guides and the beating sounds from the “Calling Hut”. Your first visit is to the "History Hut" which talks about ancient warrior weapons, cannibalism, missionaries, the seven canoe migration, traditional navigation techniques, legends, first governance and more.
Next is the "Marae", a sacred place where High Chiefs of the village meet for ceremonies and any issues surrounding the village and its people. You'll visit "Witchdoctors Hut" where the traditional Maori medicines are revealed and explained. Following this is the “Fishing Hut” which talks about ancestral fishing techniques and tools, pearls and local pearl farming with tattoo tools and demonstration. The final three sites are the “Costume Hut”, “Carving Hut” and the "Coconut Hut" where you will learn about our rich culture!!
