An unforgettable experience

This tour was amazing. Our guide, Junior, was super knowledgeable and passionate about the cave's history and preservation. He made sure everyone was always safe and comfortable. It was a great opportunity to learn more about Mayan history and rituals. It was so cool being able to explore, climb, and swim in the cave. I'd recommend this tour to anyone that's visiting San Ignacio.
Best caving experience in all my travels

Great fun exploring this expansive and sacred cave. I’m not normally that into caving but still really enjoyed this and am now considering doing more caves! Definitely the most impressive cave I’ve been too across several different countries. Be prepared to get wet, squeeze through small spaces and do a bit of climbing and scrambling up rocks. And definitely pay attention to the tour instructions on bringing water, an extra pair of socks, dry clothes for afterwards. It is is essential!

By far the best adventure we have experienced in Belize! We love adventure and this was challenging and fun exploring through the caves. Our host Juan Carlos was very knowledgeable and helpful! He even did a surprise for us at the end and led us to walk in the dark a little short ways in the water through the cave
Amazing history.

This was definitely one of our highlights on our trip; it was a very unique experience! Hector was an amazing guide and my husband and I learned so much about Mayan history and culture. It's strenuous but super fun and you can't help feeling like an actual adventurer going through the dark caves! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little thrill and a unique glimpse at Mayan rituals.

You MUST book a tour of the ATM Caves with Juan Carlos (AKA Dos Carlos) you will not regret it! The experience exceeded my expectations, Juan Carlos is hilarious sweet and extremely knowledgeable, and the lunch is PHENOMENAL (especially the rum punch!)

Unforgetable Experience-A must do!

Be sure to bring water shoes or sneakers if you do not mind getting them wet, a pair of socks, shorts or tights that you do no mind getting damaged. I wore water shoes, shorts and a tee shirt. Side Note: you cannot bring anything else because of dumb tourist who damaged precious artifacts in the cave. ATM Caves is a MUST DO IF YOU ARE IN BELIZE!!! It requires you to swim (they do provide you with life jackets), hike, cave/rock climb but you learn so much about the ceremonial practices and see so much history. TRULY AN AMAZING AND UNFORGETABLE EXPEREINCE. Some say that it gets cold in the cave but I did not experience that and I’m always cold. Additionally, our tour guide Hue was so patient and knowledgeable about everything. We also traveled with another tour guide on our bus, Hector, who was so funny and was entertaining us with his ‘dad jokes’. A perfect end to a perfect day. Lunch was provided by the tour with stewed chicken, rice and beans, coleslaw, plantain, water and with rum punch. Also, special shout out to Ben our driver!

100% recommend this company we arranged to get picked up for most our tours and I’m glad because we were located up a huge hill. Our guide was Juan Carlos and was full of information. I previously was recovering from an accident i had a few years ago so I knew I had limitations in terms of mobility and energy. I bought the keen sandals and I’m so glad I did. I also took a five hour energy drink before we started. Def not recommended for people who don’t like small spaces at times and can’t climb up and down rocks. I took my time making sure I didn’t lose my balance and successfully had a wonderful time and was in awe by all the stories and surprises in there. I was worried I’d see spiders and snakes I don’t know why I thought the worst but nothing but little fishes swimming and minding their business as you get through the cave. By far my favorite thing I did besides the Mexico Rocks Snorkel in San Pedro
Fun day!

Incredible Experiece w/ Juan Carlos

At first, I was a little skeptical of this adventure, as one of my friends chose this activity. This was the highlight of our time in San Ignacio. I HIGHLY recommend Juan Carlos as a tour guide. He was amazing and knew so many facts. He was patient with our group and helped us all as we had a range of swimming levels. We chatted like old friends and it made our time doing the ATM tour one to remember. The lunch post-tour was also super delicious and they provided hotel pick-up and drop-off. If you are in San Ignacio at all, I'd recommend taking an entire day to do this tour.
Enthralling tour, easily the coolest place I’ve ever been
Ashley_P
, Dec. 2020
This is easily the coolest thing I’ve ever done. The hike begins with an easy water crossing and then a chill 1 mile walk through the jungle with two other river crossings. The adventure begins at the cave entrance when you jump into the refreshing blue water. From there you are in the water for the next quarter mile. The cave is cavernous and beautiful, filled with incredible rock formations. There are some spots where you go through narrow passes but nothing is too challenging. At the quarter mile point, you climb up on the ledge and follow the path of the Mayas, entering a living museum. The cave is filled with thousands of ceramics and several human skeletons. Our guides, Eric and Hector, told us many stories about why the Maya entered the cave and about their belief systems and culture. The entire tour you are surrounded by an absolutely surreal landscape that feels like you are truly in the center of the earth. On the way out, we took some more fun routes slipping down natural rock slides and swimming in the pool outside the cave. Our tour finished with a delicious chicken and rice lunch. When you come here, please do so with extreme respect for this place. Some of the cultural remains have been destroyed by careless visitors. No other place like this exists on earth.

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.
