Discover the natural wonders of Tahiti on this inner-island safari tour by 4WD vehicle. After your guide picks you up from your hotel in downtown Papeete or at the wharf, hop into the 4WD for a thrilling ride — traversing rough roads best accessed by a 4x4 vehicle.

Explore Mount Marau, a former 19th-century French fortress. Treat yourself to a gorgeous vista of the lush, rainforest-clad Punaruu Valley and snap photos of the island's highest peaks: Orohena, Aorai, Tetufera and Teamaa.

Follow your guide along a 20-minute rainforest walk to reach the other two cascades, Haamaremare Iti and Haamaremare Rahi, and spend time at the final waterfall with a refreshing swim if you’d like. Back in your 4WD vehicle, make the return trip to Papeete where your full-day tour ends.

Had a wonderful experience on the tour with Eric! He was super informative and friendly. The sights were amazing to see, everything from the plants, trees, birds, mountains, lakes, oh and waterfalls soooo many waterfalls. The road is rough but Eric drove it slow and steady. The restaurant at the half way point is cash only.

Magnificent Tahiti, better with sunny weather

Glad I did this tour! While visibility was more limited on a rainy day, the sights of the mountains and waterfall of the interior were still amazing. We didn’t swim nor did we visit the archeological sights, possibly due to the rain. I’d recommend wearing a mask to avoid the exhaust while driving on the road.

The trip was quite memorable. The sights were awesome. Many waterfalls up in the mountains. The roads were steep in many sections going up over 2200 ft. We crossed a lot of streams and negotiated many switchbacks. There was a stop for lunch at a small place overlooking the valley but you will have to PAY CASH for it. Also bring water and bug repellent. Only negative was our driver did not speak a lot of English so he didn't say much and we didn't learn a lot.

The must-do tour of Tahiti
Christine_L
, Apr. 2022
The Tahiti Island Crossing was a fantastic way of seeing the island. The interior was a lot more adventurous than I'd expected, with dramatically steep black hillsides, jagged peaks, gravel roads and beautiful waterfalls. The lunch spot was stunning and the swim in the river was refreshing. Pito was an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and generous guide, which also added greatly to the experience. This is a must-do tour of Tahiti!

A Wonderful Experience

It was a very special tour, filled the incredible natural beauty. In addition, our guide Eric, stopped the vehicle frequently to show us unique sights that we otherwise would have missed. While many tours only encircle the island, this one showed a tourist the heart of the island. Thank you.

Absolutely amazing experience! Pictures can’t truly capture the beauty. Our guide Sydney, was fantastic and shared so much interesting information about historical and current day Tahiti. This trip was a highlight of our 6 day stay on Tahiti. The ride was definitely a rock and roll experience, but at no time did we feel unsafe. Highly recommend this!!

BRING MONEY FOR LUNCH
Andy_P
, Mar. 2022
First: BRING MONEY FOR LUNCH. It’s not mentioned in the details. In fact it says lunch is not provided and we did not see anything about stopping at a restaurant at the top for lunch. Others had the same experience. Those who talked with their hotel concierge knew to bring money for lunch. No credit/debit card accepted. One lady went without lunch because she had no cash and didn’t want to accept it from any of us. We only had enough to share a meal and pop. Food is delicious so BRING MONEY. Then we didn’t see all that was advertised: no temple no blowhole. Brought back 1 1/2 hour early. Maybe the details in your listing need to be updated. Driver Pito was very nice and knowledgeable. The scenery is gorgeous and the view from the vehicle was beyond words.

This is the only tour we did on Tahiti island. it was great to experience riding in the back of a truck thru the mountains and forest. Many of the roads had a drop-off to the side. Our guide was great-very informative and a good driver. we did eat at a restaurant at the top of the mountain. Food was not great but the atmosphere was awesome and just enjoyed the experience. I would recommend doing this.

Fraud Jeep Tour
Tania_L
, Feb. 2022
First off, the vehicle was NOT a jeep. I plan to write a more extensive review. The advertisement was misleading in that it alluded to potential customers that the tour would be exclusive - meaning only our group in a JEEP. We were surprised and extremely disappointed that we were accompanied by other guests and the vehicle was NOT a jeep. Please change the title of the tour to 4 by 4 vehicle and remove the word JEEP. The whole reason we were interested in spending $ for the tour was the jeep. The tour personnel tried have us change the date of the tour beforehand. When I responded stating that we would rather cancel they refused to allow us to cancel and ignored 3 of my emails. They did not inform us ahead of time what time the guide would pick us up. I received an email at 8:50am stating our pickup time was 9:30am when the ad clearly stated the tour began at 9am. The guide arrived at 9:40am without a JEEP. We were informed that lunch, if interested, was cash only. We only had credit cards. The lunch was overpriced and lasted entirely too long. The tour show some beautiful sites but took entirely tong. I would advise any and all future patrons to rethink booking this all-day excursion. For $300 plus a 50 dollar meal, I am completely unsatisfied.

The beauty all around me

Sydney was our driver and guide and was extraordinary. He explained things in both English and French, easily shifting beyween languages. We saw over 13 waterfalls and stopped to swim at the base of one and were able to actually go under the spray of the 2nd one. Sydney explained the flora and fauna and made an effort to point out orchids growing in the wild This was a trip that will stay in my memories for a long time to come . I often forget how beautiful our planet is and Sydney reminded me of the deep beauty that is there on this magical island

Rough riding, but so worth it! Our driver was awesome, and even fixed the road in places for the next guy. Stunning views of inside tahiti and we couldn’t keep track of the waterfalls. Absolutely amazing, and don’t be afraid to swim with the eels!

I absolutely enjoyed this tour, we had beautiful weather with plenty of picture opportunities. Our guide Sydney stopped many times so we could get down and explore and take pics. They also make a stop in the middle of the mountain to eat with breathtaking views.

A Worthwhile Way To Spend A Day In Tahiti
Jaclyn_F
, Aug. 2021
Overall, this was an amazing tour! My friend and I got to see SO much of the island. Like others have said, the roads were extremely bumpy, and there were a lot of steep drops that made me incredibly nervous (a bit like an eight-hour ride on a wooden roller coaster), but—also like others have said—it was 100% worth it. Our driver was excellent and extremely careful. When we purchased tickets, we put that we were English speakers (we both speak a little bit of French but not well), and the rest of the group were French speakers. Our guide did first provide information in French, but he was attentive to us and repeated everything in English. The only hiccups had to do with the list of items we were told to bring. The swimming area we stopped at was quite rocky, so a heads-up to bring water shoes would have been nice. Also, when the driver picked us up, he asked if we had brought something for lunch, and when we said no, he asked what we wanted to do about that. The tour description indicated that lunch was not included, but for an eight-hour tour, we figured there had to be a lunch stop somewhere. One of the other people on the tour said she had taken the tour several years ago and mentioned that there was a restaurant at the top of the mountain, which solved the problem, but it would have been helpful if the list of items to bring had included lunch.

Great way to see the interior of the island. Extremely rough ride and you will get wet, dirty and probably bruised! Still worth it! Our guide gave us a great experience.

Wild ride in the mountains
Joan_P
, Jul. 2021
We loved our trip to the interior of Tahiti, definitely a wild and crazy ride with lots of great scenery. It rained on us most of the trip, but that only added to the excitement. We had fun at the grocery store shopping for our lunch items and it was far cheaper and easier than going to the restaurant. We were lucky to have a French-Canadian on our trip so we were able to get a lot more information on the surrounding area and plants translated into English for us. I highly recommend this adventure if you are comfortable standing on the seats in the back of a truck and hanging onto the wet railings.
