I learned how to make pasta and it’s hard work!
Adam_M
, Aug 2021
Chef Irene was very sweet, kind, friendly and very knowledgeable. We learned how to make three different types of pasta in small group (5 of us).
The location for the class was at Irene’s humble apartment 15 minutes outside of the city center. For us, that added $100 in transportation costs. Not a plus.
You are also a guest in her home. It is not a swanky restaurant or anything like that.
You make the pasta but Irene finishes the preparation in her kitchen. All three were very good.
If you are looking for an luxury experience, this isn’t it. If you are looking for an authentic experience, it could be for you. We enjoyed it but wished it had been closer to the city center.

Worst experience ever!

The cooking class should have been the peak of our vacation in Italy. It turned out to be a nightmare.
We received an address, and entered a 4 stories building with bars on the doors! The apartment was a very small 1-room apartment that smelled of cigarettes and dirt. The kitchen was the size of a closet and very unclean. It would be impossible to cook for more than 2 people in that space. The “cook” was very confused, because he had expected 5 vegetarians, and we came 9 people – and had not ordered vegetarian food. The “winetasting” part looked like one bottle of wine and some plastic cups. We called the agency and was told to go to another venue in the other end of town, which would take at least 30 minutes to reach. We refused and agreed with the agency to get our money back. We could not get out of there fast enough. And guess what: We have not received our money back yet. DON’T EVER USE THIS ATTRACTION!!

Bolognese cooking class

Absolutely loved one cooking demonstration (and participation) and lunch with Antonio. We made two types of pasta from scratch and the a traditional Bolognese ragu, all while having a great chat and drinking a nice bottle of red at the same time. Highly recommended - this event made our Bologna holiday perfect.
Great pasta making class, poor dinner experience

The pasta making portion of this tour was great. We made three types of pasta. The host was incredibly nice, introduced us to her family, and provided a good mix of instruction + hands on learning. It was a really fun time.
Things went off the rails during the meal portion, however. We were sat at the table with the other tourists and only the host's mother, who did not speak any English. The host went to the kitchen and prepared/served the pasta, but did not provide any explanation about how she was preparing it or what was in the sauces, etc. We also only received pasta and ice cream; no appetizer or second course as promised in the description.
Next time, I would only take the pasta making class, or find another tour with a better meal component.

Caution to Travelers

We are three young adults from the United States who were visiting Bologna for the weekend. We chose this cooking class to learn how to cook traditional Italian pasta. While we did learn how to make 3 different types of noodles, the atmosphere of the class was not nearly what we expected for what we paid. While we were cooking, the instructors entire family was also in the room with us. There was a child screaming and poking us the entire time and her husband kept entering our space and touching our cooking equipment with unwashed hands. Once we had finished forming the pasta, we did not get to be involved with preparing the fillings for the pasta or for the preparation of the sauces. We were told we would receive the recipes for the sauces and fillings after the class but never did. In addition, upon completion of our meal, the entire family ate the food we made (and paid for) so the three of us ended up feeding a total of 7 people.... definitely NOT okay with us. This was never discussed ahead of time and was very unprofessional. We did not pay good money to work in unsanitary conditions, be left out of important aspects of the creation of the meal and then let others eat our work. Overall, very upset about our experience. Warning to young adults trying to save money, don't choose this class, you are better off paying a little more money to have a better experience. On a more positive note her English was wonderful, she told us some history of Bologna, and was very sweet. A different atmosphere would have completely changed our feelings about this experience.

Apalling experience

Four of us booked this expecting as described to make an appetiser, pasta and fillings plus a delicious desert and wine tasting. The small flat we arrived at had a dirty bathroom, dirty towels and dirty stained aprons. We only made pasta with a machine - no appetiser, fillings already made and no desert delicious or otherwise ! Two jugs of wine were put on the table - one red one white with no name or any indication of what they were and they were like vinegar. Grandma sat with us and talked Italian at us all evening and the families little girl ran around swinging on the backs of our chairs ! quite an unpleasant evening and nothing like the description and certainly not worth the money. We would've left but had no idea where we were - it was 3 miles out of town and we had a pre-booked return taxi.Do not book this !
Antonio was the best

A beautiful lunch!

Antonio was such a sweet guy. My husband and I went there for lunch and he showed us how to make Bolognese pasta from scratch. I was having trouble making the dough buy Antonio was incredibly helpful in fixing my mistakes and teaching me how to do it. We had a wonderful time learning how to make authentic Italian cuisine. I would highly recommend this service to anyone.
Thank you Antonio!
Totally worth your time and money!

This was one of the highlights of our tour of all of Italy!
Chef Antonio is kind, informative and super funny! He really knows what he's doing and lets you help out with the cooking as much or as little as you want. I really felt as though I was learning throughout the process. We spent the better part of 3 hours cooking, chatting, eating and laughing with Chef Antonio.
We were fortunate enough to book a small group class, so my friend and I were the only students, though I believe the classes can get up to 10 people. Antonio taught us how to make ragu, tagliatelle, and tortelonni from scratch. He also gave us a free bottle of wine and water.
Between the best pasta I've ever eaten and the wonderful conversation, I can't emphasize enough how amazing and worth it this booking is!
Thank you again for an amazing time Chef Antonio!
