Your exciting full-day shore excursion to Marseille and Cassis begins with morning pickup from your cruise terminal. Meet your guide and board the luxury minivan for the scenic 45-minute ride along the Route des Crêtes towards Cassis. Marvel at the rugged beauty of the mountainous terrain en route to Cape Canaille. Here, take in unbeatable views of the Côte d’Azur, the Gardiole mountain range and the Gulf of Cassis.

Next head down into Cassis, a charming Provençal fishing town with roots stretching back to 600 BC. Wander around the lovely harbor, delighting in the iconic Provençal houses and visiting artisan shops, or take a 45-minute cruise (additional expense) to view the region’s three famous calanques, wild limestone rock formations that line the Mediterranean shoreline.

Hop back in the van for the return trip to Marseille and a historic sightseeing tour. Wind through the colorful streets of France’s oldest city and witness the bustle of the country’s largest port. You’ll stop at the gorgeous Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, a Neo-Byzantine Catholic church that sits atop Marseille’s highest point. From this vantage point, catch sweeping views of the Vieux Port (Old Port), the sparkling Mediterranean Sea and the grand Chateau d’If, a central setting in The Count of Monte Cristo. Stop by the 11th-century Abbey of St Victor, a monastery built upon an ancient Roman necropolis. Hear some of the site’s history and significance to the early Christian population in Marseille.

Your 7-hour excursion ends with return to your cruise terminal.

Marseille and Cassis were beautiful. Our guide, Jeremy, was very knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed Cassis. It is such a quaint beautiful community. We highly recommend taking the boat ride out to the Calanques!

Our tour guide arrived on time and drove us to the Notre Dam de la Garde and around the Marseille Port area. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area. I’m only rating the excursion as a 3 because we were dropped off in Cassis for 3 hours. It’s a pretty town but very small and three hours is too much time there. I don’t feel this excursion is a good value compared to others we have taken.

Day trip to Marseille and Cassis

We had a great trip in a mini van however our driver was somewhat hard to understand, he could have shared a bit more on the drive, we had to ask questions to get him to share. The trip up to the church on the hill was crazy with the big buses navigating the switchbacks - but our minivan had no trouble! The views at the top are magnificent! Our trip to Cassis was great, we did do the boat tour to view the fjords however they did not speak English, so we had to read from a paper pamphlet - recommend checking the language before boarding a boat! A tasty lunch at a street-side cafe was a perfect ending to the day.

I didn't think this was good value for money compared to other tours we did which were cheaper and some included lunch. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable because she was Chinese and it was difficult to understand what she was saying as we couldn't understand her accent.

You will not see what is shown in the picture. You will not get a guided tour of Marseille or Cassis. You will see 2 churches with no historical significance. You will have the opportunity to eat at an overpriced bistro in Cassis. This is the most overpriced and under delivered tour I have ever taken.

The tour guide took us to some very interesting sites, the oldest church and we were able to stop shoreside for a very good lunch. The mountains and church provide very picturesque scenery in which you are able to take wonderful photos. After lunch, we were able to have time for shopping and dessert. We were with relatives, four adults. It was extremely windy at the church site, however, not at the lunch and shopping sites.

Lauren was our tour guide and was fantastic. Small Mercedes van, very comfortable. Seats six or seven. We only had three. The highlight is the drive to Cassis ( spectacular views) and the gorgeous town of Cassis. You get three hours of free time there. Which is perfect. Overall 10 out of ten. Beats spending a day in Marseille, which is not a very pretty city.

This was on of my favorite tours ever. Remi picked us up very easily, and we were in a small group in a comfortable van. We went to a catherdral, a few other city sites, and the Notre-Dame de la Garda which was beautiful. We then went through the hills/mountains which I had no idea they had in France and went to a beautiful cliff top on our way to Cassis. Cassis was lovely where we had some awesome seafood. Our group decided to pay the extra amount for the boat ride, with Remi helped us set up. The boat ride was awesome and I highly recommend. It was a nice boat sailing past all the cliffs and amazing coastal views. This was a perfect day!

The Palanques National Park by Cassis has incredible views and walking the harbor front in Cassis with a delicious seafood lunch is a marvelous experience. Our guide, Nicholas, has superb English skills and is personable, knowledgeable and flexible.

Very pretty drive through Marseille with stops at St. Vincent's Abbey and Notre Dame de Garde. Then on to Cassis with a stop above the village with a spectacular view. The only issue with this tour and it was not the tour operators fault, was that, in Cassis, which is a quaint little fishing village, there is not much to do other than take a boat trip to some lagoons, which we had very much wanted to do. Unfortunately the ticket booth was closed when we arrived and opened about an hour and a half before we were to leave. The line up for tickets, however, was very long and there was no way we could have made a trip and returned on time. Perhaps an option to purchase boat tickets prior to arriving could be offered. Overall, it was a very pleasant way to spend the day.

Picked up a little late from the ship and spotted Jeremy easily. He was very personable and gave great history and background on Marseille and Cassis. We visited 2 cathedrals in Marseille glad we were there early because it got VERY crowded. Then on to Cassis where we went up to the national park to view the village of Marseille. Very beautiful views, could've stayed there all day! Then down to Cassis where we had plenty of free time to eat lunch and take the boat tour of the calanques. Worth the extra time and money. I wish we'd had more time to shop and explore in Cassis, as it was the highlight of the day.

This an awesome tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and gave a lot of information to us. It was unfortunate that we were there at the Mystral, so it was very, very cold in Marseille but the guide spend more time in Cassis where it was warmer and such a wonderful place... I would take this one again.

Florence was an excellent tour guide! My husband and I ended up being the only ones on the tour, which allowed us to see things at our pace. Florence was very nice and knowledgeable and showed us some of the most amazing places we saw on our trip. Cassis was gorgeous! I highly recommend this tour!
