Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Oxford Day Trip from London

It was not a very well guided trip. Evan’s Evans as the tour operator did a poor job. On top of it was too hot .

The guide was very good (Patricia). The weather was so hot 40 degrés. The A/C in the bus was not able to deal with the heat. But the trip was very good.

Looking at all of the art in Windsor Castle. I also enjoyed the objets d'art given to HRH QE II by various nations. The guide, Nicholas, enhanced the trip with his commentary. His knowledge of English history, especially about the monarchs, was impressive. It was a day well spent but not enough time in Oxford.

Unfortunately, Windsor Castle was closed on the day of our visit (otherwise I would have given this five starts), but Stonehenge was amazing and Oxford was interesting.

It was a long day, but well worth it. Three amazing places to visit all in one trip. I wish we’d had more time at Windsor Castle. One could spend a whole day there. Oxford was brief: just walking through the streets, however, our guide was well versed in telling us about Oxford (and the other places) in his 27 years of doing this. If you didn’t know the history of Oxford, or hear it from a guide, it seems like about any other college town, yet with older buildings. Stonehenge was eerily cool. If you are in south England, you have to see it as a “bucket list” item. The tour guide gives you a sheet with RFID markers in it to tap a Vox Box with earphones to, and it tells you about various parts of Stonehenge. At the other two places, he uses the Vox Box to communicate with the group, telling the stories and history of wherever you are. Along the route, he’ll point out random places of interest….such as where Alfred Hitchcock lived! Wifi on the bus was hit & miss. There was a toilet, but nobody used it….several places to stop along the way. Bus was a comfortable new Mercedes, with reclining seats and decent AC. The driver had some mad skilz….I have no idea how he so nimbly maneuvered that rig in such tight places! Food is scarce, so bring snacks/sandwiches and drinks. If I did it again: I would do just Windsor and Stonehenge.

The guide and driver were great but there was a lot of information not given in the description before I booked it like Windsor castle isn’t open on Tuesday and Wednesday and that it was a bilingual tour if I would have known I would have been prepared but there wasn’t enough time to enjoy the stops on our own because the tour took long

Good trip for a general overview of each location. Could easily have spent more time at each stop. Best site for me was Windsor Castle. All rooms were quite impressive and the audio tour helped enrich the experience. Since this was a bi-lingual tour, the commentary by the guide was limited to accommodate each language. Would not recommend this tour on a hot day, since the tour bus has no air conditioning.

Windsor Castle - This was quite the walk to get to from the coach station. The lines moved quickly but were very long. You can only photograph the outside of the building, so I did pick up a souvenir book to remember the details and to share with family. The Queen was actually in Scotland while we were there having a garden party. It's really hard to see everything you might want in 90 minutes (that includes the lines and palace). Everyone was friendly. Stonehenge (the ONE THING I really wanted to do): I was so looking forward to this icon but it was a cold solid rain and my "Rain Coat" turned out to be a wind breaker - oh what an awful time to find that out. I was drenched and had to find dry clothes at the gift shop. There was ONLY enough time to ride the bus to the walkway and then walk quickly around the monument and snap a few photos. Then back on the bus to the visitors center. There was really no time for the gift shop and it was CROWDED because of the rain. I cut in line with a dry t-shirt and hoody and missed my chance at nice postcards because I simply could not get to them. VIATOR you really need MORE TIME at this stop. 1 hour was not enough time when waiting in lines. Happy we had a bus ride provided by Stonehenge. Oxford: Well our tour guide basically abandon us in the rain. It was a walking tour and it was pouring down rain. Remember I just purchased dry clothes, so I popped into the Ashmolean Museum 1683. What a lovely surprise and out of the weather. I really wanted to visit the college but ..... that did not happen. Soon the museum closed and it was back to the streets on my own. A lovely man, I think he was a professor, offered to help me with directions. I know I looked lost and a little sad. He insisted I take his very large umbrella as he lived next to the museum. I graciously took it and found a little shop called the Flying Tiger to spend a few dollars/pounds at before leaving. Take away: Get a good umbrella or rain coat. You can always leave it on the bus. The distances you travel, the weather can change dramatically. There is simply not enough time when you have 3 stops to make in one day. Consider if you want immersion or just a quick photo to say "I've been there". ;)

The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and nice . Well organized a bit rushed but no other way if you want to see all 3 sites in one day . Beautiful places !

Our tour guide Robert and driver Robin were outstanding! Super knowledgeable and quick with humorous anecdotes of British history!
