Head out of Milan in the morning and relax on the comfortable coach for the 2-hour ride to the coast. Once in Genoa (or Genova as the Italians call it), begin an information-packed walking tour, as you learn about the history of this fascinating history. Let your guide regale with historical anecdotes that include native son Christopher Columbus. Learn about how just a couple of decades ago the historical center of Genoa was a dangerous no-go zone but today it's been cleaned up and is now a safe and fun place to hang out. 

When the tour is finished, take some free time to explore independently. Sit down at a restaurant and have lunch (at own expense) or stroll along the sea and explore the village of Santa Margherita Ligure, just to the southeast of Genoa. This diminutive and charming seaside town sits on Dolphin Gulf, named for the abundance of dolphins that inhabit the area. Switch from coach to boat here and cruise through the sea over to Portofino. 

Then take some free time in Portofino to explore on your own, strolling the narrow cobblestone streets and going past colorfully painted houses on the waterfront and soaking up the Mediterranean scenery. Head to Castello Brown, the city’s 16th-century castle. If you visit on a clear day, you'll be rewarded with views across the Mediterranean Sea of the lush mountains of Corsica.

This company were so professional to deal with. They had great coaches and staff and our guide on the day made sure we were all looked after. He even made sure we knew how to contact the company if we got lost…. The day itself was great. Probably could have done with more time in Portofino but as it’s a long distance from Milan, it’s not possible.

Bottom line, too much time in Genoa, not enough time in Portofino. To make matters worse, about a third of Genoa's buildings are under renovation and covered in scaffolding. We booked this tour because we wanted to go to Portofino, and the time we had there was less than 2 hours

We booked this trip in advance, and the departure time was clearly stated as 7:30 am. Sadly, Zani Viacci agency in Milan has never communicated that departure time has been changed to 7 am. As a result, we missed this trip. I give it one star, because one person in this agency was very helpful and competent and offered other excursion. However, we missed the trip that we wanted to have.

Totally amazing! Genoa was a busy seaport city with lots of history. Portafino and San Margherite are both beautiful towns. Portofino had spectacular colorful buildings and was very quaint. I would highly recommend this tour.

The stops are actually Genova and Portofino. Genova is a large city that I would have rather not gone to. Our guide provided no information regarding the location and it was literally just a stop and drop. I am not joking when I say that in under 60 seconds of arriving in both locations he was no where to be found. I was SHOCKED that they dropped us off in Genova. The place where we were left for lunch was full of homeless citizens who were agressively harassing my daughter and I for money while we were trying to eat lunch. I am not sure why they could not find a safer location in town to drop us in but I was not pleased with this. Portofino is nice but again, it is really a DIY tour. I felt that I could have saved a lot of money planning this myself as the transportation would not have been as expensive as this tour. Not recommended.

This guided tour was taken on June 21, 2018. Our main tour guide was Sabrina (from Zani Viaggi) who was professional, knowledgeable,competent and kind. She pointed out special places of interest which should be visited during this quite interesting tour. Loredana was the local guide in Geneva and I enjoyed the city tour - we visited the main attractions of Geneva. I would not mind to repeat the same tour. A day well spent. This tour is highly recommended. My special thanks to Sabrina.

This was an awesome trip. While Portofino was the goal, I ended up loving Genoa, the tour guide was so knowledgeable. Both places were amazing. So worth it! For the long bus ride, Wifi on the bus often doesn't work, so just have a few movies downloaded on your iPad and you are good to go!

I would rate this tour as a 2 star. The tour guide on the bus was good but seemed to be a little disenteeested in the group. The tour person in Genoa was very informative but we had no opportunity to visit any buildings due to a selfimposed time restraint of the tour. When we arrived in Santa Margarita to get the boat to Porto Fino we had to get a small public bus as no boat was available for us. A small bus should have been arranged for us. by small I mean a bus for 25 to 30 with over 50 squeezed on board. An incident occurred on the small bus on the return of this ride and a tour passage had to be rushed to the hospital. Due to this delay and other items the tour was almost 2 hours late returning to Milan amid heavy rain. We were glibly told with an arm wave where to go to get a taxi to our hotels. The last time we had a trip this far behind scheduled return into the evening the tour operator arranged for transport of all the tour passangers back to our hotels in the interest of our safety. This was very poorly handled and on top of the other items I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

I am very sorry we purchased this tour. There were multiple negative issues. The tour hostess offered virtually no commentary during the trip. My headset had static and did not work well. Hostess said they were all like that, but the tour we did the next day had a similar headset and it was perfect. Six hours of this tour is consumed in travel. Trying to tour both cities is simply too much. The Genova tour was good, but very rushed. There was barely time for lunch in San Margherita. Our boats to Portofino were cancelled due to the weather forecast, although the weather was fine. We were loaded onto a local bus for the trip to Portofino, standing all the way, on a bus loaded to about twice its' capacity. No offer of a refund for the lack of a boat trip. In Portofino, there was no guided tour. We were simply told to be back in an hour and twenty minutes. My wife and I were so disgusted at that point, we took a taxi back to San Margherita and the train to Milan at a cost of 130. If you want to see either city, save the hassle and do it on your own via the train.
