Great tour with OUTSTANDING guide

Herculaneum is a well preserved and amazing place. In my book it’s better than Pompeii if your time is limited. It’s smaller, better preserved and was much richer than Pompeii, which was a real trading town. The guide was a real archeologist who worked at Herculaneum, apparently part of the team that discovered the boat at the former beach. He was thus incredibly knowledgeable and ENTHUSIASTIC. He really brought the place to live, comparing features of the taverns with today McDonald’s and bringing coins for illustrations.

Our guide, Diego, was friendly and informative. He was also very considerate in trying to find shady areas to talk to us on a very hot day. Well worth the cost. Having a guided tour brings the site to life and helps to make the most of a visit.

A great tour that captures Italy in 79AD

This was a brilliant tour! Our guide, Alessandra (native of Ercolano and recent defender of her Ph.D.!), is an archeologist who did a great job painting pictures for us of what this little town was like while sharing her vast knowledge. We have been to both Pompeii and Ercolano (Herculaneum). With Ercolano, its easier to get a sense of how the old town was covered during the eruption, the challenges of excavation, and buildings that are arranged with more items that date to that time/original pieces. We were surprised at the amount of original wood that has been excavated. If you have a choice, skip Pompeii. We hope they find a way to continue to excavate more of Ercolano. I can say I have to see Pompeii but see no reason to return. However, I could see myself returning to Ercolano in a few years to see what else they have found and how that builds the story of this really interesting excavation site.

A guy is very knowledgeable about the area. Although it was very hot and uncomfortable he made sure that we were in the shade and was very interesting as he told us about Herculaneum

Travel back in time with Luciano

Totally worth it! We’re so fortunate to have Luciano Leone share his excitement about his work and findings on the Herculaneum. He gave so much color and background on how people in Ercolano lived at that time, based on what they have literally unearthed. He wanted to cover so much that the 2 hours flew by. On top of that, he is also keen to remind people to be safe (by finding shade as much as possible and reminding us to watch our steps). We would like to come back here in 2 years to follow up on the progress of their work. He showed us technology and civil engineering these ancient people used over 2,000 years ago. He pointed out the actual evidence where there were pylons and showed us the actual bridge peeking out — just to give an example of the many things he showed. Thank you, Luciano, for a fascinating tour and for taking us back in time. My kids (ages 10, 12, 13, 15) enjoyed the tour. I also made sure that they had their water bottles and wore their caps/hats. My husband and I agree that this tour made our visit to Campania completely worth it. Thank you, Askos, for arranging this tour.

Diego our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He pointed out a few unique features found here that cannot be seen in Pompeii. He was also thoughtful to keep our group in the shade as much as possible. Definitely recommend.

The guide Luciano was very knowledgeable. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 simply because there were about 20 people, which is too big for a small tour. I expected only 10 or so.

Amazing tour with Luciano, he is very passionate about the history and excavation of Herculaneum and we learned so much along the way, unbelievable experience to see this town almost perfectly preserved as it once was. Highly recommend, we will be back!

A full and comprehensive tour.

The whole tour was very well organised. Our guide, Teresa, was a trained archaeologist and very knowledgeable; she brought the whole thing to life. Our small group covered the whole of the site and Teresa gave full and interesting facts at each point. Lots of questions were asked and answered fully. The site itself is incredible with so many different artefacts and at the end there is a museum which is well worth a visit. It’s fantastic value for money. Wear comfortable shoes and a sun hat if it’s hot. I would happily do it all again. The only disappointment was not being able to see the skeletons in the dock area close up.

Herculaneum was more than I expected, and Lorenzo was engaging, knowledgeable, entertaining and showed us so much more than I hoped for. The size of the group was perfect for everyone involved. I would highly recommend Lorenzo and I am so grateful for this experience!

Our archaeologist guide was outstanding, very knowledgeable on the history and easily able to answer all the questions the group had. He did a good job of managing the group through the historical site. Only recommendation I have is that it would’ve been great if everyone could’ve had headphones to clearly hear the great information he was sharing.

I would recommend this tour with reservations. Getting to the site from Rome by train was a nightmare. Directions were horrible. our guide, Luciano, was a character. He was informative, opinionated and the site itself was amazing. Access to the ruins was so open and preservation much better than Pompeii. Be prepared for much walking-several miles including walk to & from station and the site.

Not to be missed experience Ercolano archeological site is magic and you can experience life of Romanian era in a rich village The villas the beach and the painted wall are marvelous Our guide Antonella was great as she is an archeologist with so much knowledge and passion Prioritize this tour compared to others with less specialized guide Ercolano is easy to reach through public train Transvesuviana from Naples city
