Pompeii and Herculaneum Small Group tour with an Archaeologist

Excellent guide highly recommend booking this tour you will enhance your visit to these sites greatly.

The tour was supposed to have a maximum of 12 - for the Herculaneum , we had 17-18. We were supposed to have headsets for over 10 participants - we only had headsets for Herculaneum. The tour was advertised as 5 hours - we left after 5 hours 40 minutes to be sure we could catch a train without a long wait. Our guide was a bit long winded but very informative.

This tour was the best for a first time visit to Pompeii. The tour organiser was easy to find and even sent a photo of the meeting place beforehand. The tour of Pompeii was excellent and we were shown all the key parts with great information from the guide. We were then escorted to Herculaneum via train which was really reassuring! I’m so glad we did Herculaneum as well as it’s preserved better than Pompeii and had some very interesting (and different elements) from the first tour. It is a long day of walking, but we loved every minute and was a great way to sightsee in the area!

Our guide was extraordinary! This was my 5th visit to Pompeii in my lifetime but my first to Herculaneum. Don’t miss Herculaneum! It is us such a different kind of town and the site is fascinating, beautiful and unique. A great guide makes this a 5 star experience!

Our guide Antonio was excellent in all aspects: from the depth and currency of his knowledge, his English language skill and his ability to make it a fascinating experience. The tour meeting point was easy to find (make sure you get to the correct circuversuvia station - not the one just called Pompeii) and there were 15 of us in total. The ear-piece & voice mike system worked well all day allowing us to hear him no matter how many other people were around. The switch via train to the second site was very well managed. Antonio knows both sites well so he was able to move us around away from crowded places, giving fascinating insights into roman life of both rich and poor, and revealing details we'd have missed otherwise. He could answer every question we threw at him. His enthusiasm was infectious !! We saw everything - columns, mosaics, wall paintings, cooking stations, baths, gymnasia, villas, shops, 2000yr old charred wood door and bed, metal objects and of course the plaster casts. The differing impact of the eruption on the 2 towns became so clear under his guidance. One of the best tours round a historic site I have had. Well worth the money. Thank you.

This was a superb tour! Our archeologist guide, Sergio, was very knowledgeable and passionate about his subject, gave a well-paced tour, and seemed to be a fine gentleman, to boot! We truly felt that the tours through Pompeii and Herculaneum were comprehensive and inclusive—and were a great way to see these “bucket-list” sites.

Diego was a wonderful guide for these two tours. He was extremely knowledgeable and his background as an archeologist really helped us understand both sites. Pompeii is overwhelming and very large and difficult to navigate without a guide, so we would highly recommend this tour, and Diego!

Oct. 2021- What a wonderful day! We took an early train from Rome and meet our driver, Roberto, at the Naples Station at 9:15 a.m. The drive to Pompeii was comfortable and Roberto played music and talked with us about the area (Trip was semiprivate with my husband and I and another tourist). He even stopped in new Pompeii and let us visits the town square for 15 mins since we had some time. Sergio was our guide for the ruins and he was excellent, you can tell he is extremely passionate about this area. Herculaneum was a MUST do... It is way less crowded then Pompeii and the ruins are more intact. I am so happy we got to see both. Because we got this package, we got to go in the private car for transfer from Pompeii to Herculaneum and had time for a sit down lunch. The other option would be to take a 30 min train. Roberto took us to a local Italian restaurant where we had amazing pizza for lunch. Then we went to Herculaneum. Roberto dropped us back at the Naples station at 5:15 p.m. and we took the next train back to Rome.

Michael was an outstanding passionate guide, his knowledge and passion for the history was clear .An amazing day out thank you
