Don't Trust this Company

Viator lied and told several groups that our tour would begin at 8, when it did not begin until more than 1.5 hours later. They tried to tell us they emailed us about the change, but the opposite is true - they emailed us confirming the 8:00 time. They then refused to answer questions at the colisseum. Do NOT book any tours with this company.

Don’t bother if you want to actually get what you pay for

Booked the tour weeks in advance. The day before we arrived (during our traveling) the operator sent an email asking to change the time to an hour and a half later than what we originally scheduled saying there was an error in the system. I informed them this would not fit in with our plans and requested a refund. We did not hear a response from them until an hour before the tour (in which we went there just in case). They said we could received a 100% refund or if we showed up at the later time, a 30% refund and take the tour. Again, I let them know I booked the tour because the timing fit in with our short time in the city and requested a refund. Haven’t heard a word back nor has any money been refunded. Highly disappointed as we had been looking forward to the tour and it was too late to try to fit it in elsewhere. Unsure if we will even see a refund. Buyer beware, I would absolutely not recommend this especially in comparison to other tours with attentive, communicative, and reliable services offered.

Could have been so much better

So much potential but poor execution on the company’s part. Little guidance /direction about what was happening. VR tech was not explained and did not work well. I also was not comfortable putting a VR headset on outside in a public area, in the dark… - perfect environment for pick pockets to strike!! Once inside, audio was VERY poor quality which made it very hard to hear the guide. Beautiful location but the tour was poorly executed.

It was an amazing experience and the tour guide allowed you time to take everything in and take photos. They also explained everything clearly about the history of the colosseum and I learnt a lot. Also seeing the colosseum lit up at night is such a wonderful thing. I would definitely recommend this!!

Poor organization - rude staff

Booked for a total of 18 people via phone. Representative assured me we would be together and noted the reservation. When we arrived 12 of us were together and the remaining 6 had to wait 1 hour for theirs. Representative of When in Rome Tours was very rude and refused to accommodate at all. While the tour itself was good the overall experience was very stressful.

Don’t ever book with Viator, it’s a complete rip off. You can book direct with the colosseum for €25 for the exact same tour (you actually get access to forum) , as the colosseum run the tours. Cost me $378 for a family when it could have cost me a €100 for exactly the same tour. Don’t ever book with viator.

We had an awesome and knowledgeable tour guide. She was amazing. The only issue we had was the reservation change. We received an email saying to meet at 9pm when our confirmed reservation was at 8pm. It was unclear and a little stressful as others were waiting with the same issue. Overall, the tour more than made up for this glitch.

This was a great tour. Doing it in the evening was a way to avoid the heat and the crowds of June in the city. The tour also gave us an opportunity to see the underground part and learn the history of the workings of the Colosseum. It was very interesting. Finishing the tour after the sun set made for beautiful pictures. I highly recommend the tour.
