Colosseum/Roman Forum

Make your own way to a central meeting point in Rome to meet your guide and group.

Walk over to the Colosseum with your skip-the-line ticket in hand, then bypass the main entrance lines to head straight inside the arena via the Gladiator’s Gate. Transporting you back in millennia, your guide regales you with stories of the gladiators who fought here to their death.

From the arena, head up to the first floor to see where the bloodthirsty Roman crowds bayed, and gaze out over Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum—your next stop.

Leave the Colosseum, and walk over to the forum as you hear tales of imperial-era Rome. Wander around the main ruins and monuments of the ancient plaza, which was a center of political activity in the city’s heyday.

Finish your tour near the Roman Forum.

NOTE: There is a new rule at the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill that only small backpacks and regular-size handbags are allowed inside. Guests with larger bags are not allowed to enter (there are no storage facilities) and all guests must now pass through a security check before entering the Colosseum.

Stop At:
Colosseum
Step off the tourist track in the Colosseum and get a gladiator’s-eye-view by using their special entrance and stepping onto the normally off-limits arena floor. You can’t get closer to the action than this. The arena floor is where people actually fought and died in the Colosseum. While most visitors only ever see it from the stands, you’ll bypass long, general entrance lines and step directly onto it via the special Gladiator’s Gate. As you marvel at the great amphitheater around you, your expert guide will tell stories to transport back nearly 2,000 years, when vicious blood sports were the most popular form of entertainment in Rome. During your tour you’ll also explore the rest of the Colosseum, including the first floor and Roman Forum overlook.

The tour guide was oh so friendly and definitely knew her history! She’s been giving coliseum tours for 12 years and it showed! The tour was longer than expected 3-3.5hrs, but not in a bad way at all. The tour is slow paced starting in the Roman forum, Palentine hill and ending at the coliseum. You are welcome to explore the coliseum more so afterwards on your own if you wish. I’d suggest to bring water as there aren’t many fountains along the tour and you will walk a lot so wear good shoes. 10/10

Very knowledgeable guide with tons of information. The tour allows you to have enough time to check the places in details. It included also a visit in the Roman forum, which is spectacular.

The guide was very knowledgeable about The Forum and made it so interesting. I don't think, personally, thst the Colosseum is worth the trip inside. Wondrous to look st from outside but very little to actually see from inside.

Great experience to see a lot of Rome. I would recommend bringing a large water bottle which you can refill for free along the tour. Also a hat as it gets very hot and little shade/wind breeze to help.

Would really recommend doing a guided tour to make the most of this visit. Tour guide was really informative and friendly, was conscious of the heat and tried to put us in the shade as much as possible. So many facts and trivia we just wouldn’t have got from the books or signs.

Our guide Paola (apologies if spelt wrong)was excellent. Her knowledge made things come to life and easier to understand the history of the area. It was a very hot day so my advice would be take water with you, bottles can be filled from taps inside the area. Assembly point was found easily using google maps. Once there the organisation was efficient with a group of 23. I would strongly recommend the guided tour as it just brings the experience to life. Pace was easy but the sun is strong as I mentioned earlier, so baggy clothes also help. All areas are very crowded and there is very little evidence of mask wearing which wasn't an issue for us but maybe to some. A very enjoyable few hours ....enjoy !!
