Vatican City Tour: Vatican Museums Sistine Chapel and Vatican Basilica

Our tour giide was great! She explained a lot, and was very helpful. We would have been lost without our guide.

Rafael rooms and Sistine chapel were highlights. Spent too much time in other parts of museum so even though the evening tour did not include the basilica, it still felt rushed.

Guide did well even through how busy it was! Very knowledgeable on all the information and funny as well!

The tour was ok but we waited one hour to start. If someone is late we should wait max 10 minutes and start without them.

The tour we booked was due to begin at 2:30pm, I would recommend booking a morning slot if possible as the afternoon slot was not enough time to see much at all. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and polite but he was unorganised and unfortunately due to terrible time keeping we did not visit St. Peter’s basilica as it closes at 6pm and we were still in the Sistine chapel at 5.30pm. I was under the impression you could enter the basilica from a side entrance within the Vatican itself but this tour guide rushed us back through the Vatican, we had to walk so fast we weren’t able to stop and ask questions about anything or stop at the gift shop where my friend wanted to purchase some holy water. We were then marched around to St. Peter’s square where we joined a queue (I thought the tour was skip the line) and only then the tour guide casually announced that the basilica must have closed at 6pm. It’s a bit concerning that they don’t know this information if they’re delivering tours regularly and surely these details should have been checked. We then checked to make sure the opening times hadn’t changed during our stay and it closes at 6pm every day. It was such a shame. We didn’t have time to take photos anywhere within the Vatican or look at what we wished to. I requested a refund as we weren’t visiting that part of Rome again and so we were unable to see the basilica during our trip and they refunded me £17 which equates to about €6 each for 3 adults, after checking what other tour trips offer for a much cheaper price I don’t think this refund is fair and I wouldn’t recommend this. The tour guide did have great knowledge but perhaps this company shouldn’t run tours starting in the afternoon, or perhaps I’d recommend booking a morning tour and then enjoying the Vatican and museum at your own pace for the rest of the day.
