Itinerary
Stop At:
Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is one of the most important treasures of the Vatican, of Rome and of the world. It is famous for its frescoes but also because it is where the Popes are elected. What most attracts attention in the Sistine Chapel, however, is not its architecture, but the frescoes that completely decorate its walls and ceiling. Renowned artists such as Botticelli, Perugino and Michelangelo contributed to the wide decoration of the Chapel.

I know it has nothing to do with how the tour was organised, but OMG it was crowded...most of the times we just had to go with the people flow not being able to stop where we wanted to spend more time it accelerate where we were not that interested.

We could not find a representative at the meeting point, the mobile number we were given was ringing out and we are still awaiting a response from an email sent over 5 days ago. All the way to Rome to see the Vatican and Sistine Chapel.......thanks Viator for nothing!

We missed the window for picking up our tickets because driving and parking around the Vatican is particularly tricky one way streets. We had no plan b, so we hired another company for skip the line tickets. The tour through the Vatican was nightmarish. It took 2 hours to get in, even though we had skip the line tickets. It was swarmed with people and we kept getting trapped behind clogged hallways of looky-loos for miles. We all wished we would have skipped this overwhelming and underwhelming drama.

Beautiful day. Skip the line is the only way to go. It took half an hour or so to get in, but the regular wait was hours long.

I'm rating this tour a 2 out of 5 not because of the tour itself, but primarily the attraction itself. The Vatican Museum is filled with pieces upon pieces upon pieces all with pretty much the exact same recurring images- those of Christ, Mary and angels. We spent about 2 hrs going through the museum but it got quite, and I hate to use this word, boring very quickly. The only real high light for me was seeing the roof of the Sistine Chapel having studied Michaelangelo in school. Overall though I regret dedicating almost half a day to this tour between getting there and coming back. Bear in mind there is no guiding at all in this which is important to remember. If you plan on visiting the museum, definitely come with a tour guide so you can information. I purchased the audible tour guide at the front desk for 5 euros, but every number of art you press has a musical introduction of about a minute until it gets to the information. After the first few times of listening to some pieces I neglected the guide altogether. In conclusion, if you are interested in the museum and wish to really learn something- this is not the tour for you and you need to come with a guided tour- do not rely on the audible guides. But if you are interested in just strolling through the museum while getting no information- this is really good as you get to skip the long lines. Another important thing which I did not realise until I was at the museum itself- St Peter's Square is a good 15 minute drive from the museum. I think it cost about 10 euros to get there which is inexpensive but still important to know.

Absolutely worth getting the extra time not waiting in line to get in - once inside, it's a continuous line to the Sistine Chapel. The museums are a stunning collection of history.

Thus is not really a tour. They walk you in and hand you your access tickets. I suggest they also could hand you a good map of the museum. Suggest you purchase audio tour, that way you get a good map. Or, pay the money for a before opening tour, that way you see the Sistine with many fewer people.

We met our guide at the pre-tour meeting point. Easy enough to find by taxi or Metro Stop. The meeting point was extremely unsanitary, and many hawkers trying to sell water, selfie sticks, trinkets. (with a firm NO, they walk away.) The guides walk fast! Wife disabled so we were always last.

Interesting place but too many people within the museum. Pick a departure time around 12:30 PM instead of 11 AM

The experience was trying early on because at the last minute, we got tickets to be in the Audience of the Pope. It created a time problem. The contact at Viatour said we would not be able to make both events on the same day as we would be in the audience for Pope when we needed to meet the people for the Vatican Museums. It turned out to be no problem at all because we could leave the first event in plenty of time to meet the guide for the Vatican Museums. Obviously, the two locations were close and it was easy to accommodate both events. We appreciated having the tickets and having a guide take us in to the museum. I would love to have the guide stay a bit longer just to make sure we were going in the right direction. Thank you!

Got into the museum quickly but found them very crowded for mid October. also al the tour groups make the situation much worse as they waste time at each stop discussing things to people who aren't listening, delaying visitors, which just adds congestion.

We skipped the line and made our own way which was fine. The crowds were not for believing, worse than IKEA. The crush of people was distressing and made it difficult to see the displays easily. Perhaps it would be better to buy a video to watch at home.

No need to get a skip the line ticket. Get a tour instead. You really need to know what you are looking at and someone to point you where to go as there are 11 museums in there.

Skip the line was great and truthfully that was all this tour included. However once inside it was difficult to navigate the museum even with an audio guide. But as I mentioned this tour included just skip the line access which worked great. I think the size of the crowd was really what made this difficult.

It was super easy to find the tour liaison. FYI, this is NOT a guided tour, it just gives you the ability to skip lines. It was great in the summer when it was super hot out.
