Before departing Rome on your day trip to Venice, meet a tour host to receive your round-trip ticket for the high-speed train, your vaporetto pass for Venice’s water taxi network and your skip-the-line ticket for St Mark’s Basilica. Then head to the train station for the 3.5-hour journey north.

When you arrive in Venice, meet a second tour host, who will give you a map and provide tips about what to see and do. Then you’re on your own to explore the city independently. Make your way through the tangled web of campos (squares), calli (narrow streets) and bridges, soaking up the romantic and old-world ambience for which the city is so beloved. Go in search of waterfront shops and restaurants along Riva degli Schiavoni, pose on the Bridge of Sighs, admire the Gothic Doge’s Palace or visit St Mark’s Square.

Make sure to use your skip-the-line ticket at St Mark’s Basilica to admire its gilded mosaics and marble floors, and then perhaps visit San Polo for a piece of more authentic local life, where you can stroll past shops inside old homes and stop by a bàcaro (snack bar) to try Venetian specialties like cicheti (tapas-like small food dishes).

With your vaporetto pass (good for 12 hours, although you won’t be in Venice that long), you can travel easily around the city by water taxi or waterbus, and perhaps take a ride across the iconic Grand Canal. When your time in Venice comes to an end, meet your host at Santa Lucia Station to board the train back to Rome, where your day trip concludes in the late evening.

Recommended - Rome to Venice Day trip!
, May 2022
Would recommend! My wife and I used this adventure to travel on a one day trip from Rome to Venice. We had an incredible time. The trip was very smooth from start to finish and host was very knowledgeable, fun to be with and patience.
Beautiful, but not independent
, May 2022
Venice is absolutely beautiful and we are so happy we went on this trip. However, it’s listed as an independent tour of Venice, I wish we had more time on our own to explore. Might be better to list this as a guided tour, as we really only had a few hours of free time to play with.
Fun trip from Rome to Venice

Best day in Venice !

Long but amazing day! My husband and I loved Venice. Rossella was a great tour leader and I learned a few things from her 🙂. She really knew her stuff and how to wrangle a big group! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is staying in Rome!

We were a little nervous about going from Rome to Venice and back in a day, but it was great. The train ride is comfortable and goes by quickly. Our tour leader was great. Venice is truly amazing. It is a must see for anyone coming to Italy. We spent 6 hours in Venice which was nice, but if we ever return we will spend two or three days.
Wonderful day trip!

Our guide, Rossella, was great! Met us at the train station in Rome and made getting to Venice on the train easy. She helped us navigate the water taxi and narrow streets to get us to St. Mark's Basillica and the San Marco Square. A few free hours to explore (take a gondola ride:) and then she met our group of 8 back in the square to navigate us back to the train station for our train ride back to Rome. It was the perfect visit to Venice and it was enough time for us to see and do what we wanted to.
Great tour!

Our day trip to Venice from Rome was wonderful! Rosella was so friendly, informative, and accommodating! This is a self guided tour so you can do your own thing once you get off the train. Rosella went above and beyond, she stayed with our group and walked us all the way to St.Mark’s Basilica. Once there she gave us a meeting point a few hours later if we wanted to walk with her back to the train station. During our walks around town she stopped and pointed out great picture spots and told us a little about the different things we were seeing. I cannot recommend this trip enough! While I’m sure experiencing Venice on your own is great, it was so nice having someone with us to point things out and tell us some history!
Venice at it finest!

A once in a lifetime experience that was made even better by the wonderful Rossella! Beauty, art and great food shared with the group by a very smart and talented tour guide. The attention to details and love of this city were shared with all of us.

We loved Venice. The speed train is super comfortable, of note: you can bring tour charger as every seat has outlets. Our guide Rosella was amazing and super fun… she made the whole experience better.
