Since this half-day tour is private, your itinerary can be customized more closely to your interests, if you choose. Feel free to mention to your guide where you’d like to focus your time.

Your excursion will begin with pickup from your Salzburg hotel. Hop aboard your private coach and begin your journey to the UNESCO-listed village of Hallstatt. Along the way, soak up views of the famed Alpine peak of the Dachstein, towering 9,826 feet (2,995 meters) from the ground.

Arrive in Hallstatt, an area dating back to prehistoric times and renowned for its long history of salt production. Here, coordinate your itinerary with your guide and then venture out independently for 30 minutes if you choose. Check out the Mühlbach Waterfall and sail across the lake on a scenic boat ride (own expense). You can also opt to travel up the mountain by train to see the world's oldest salt mine (admission at own expense), taking in views of the town stretched out below. Or stroll along Lake Hallstatt and sightsee from the crisp blue water.

Stop to examine the village’s unique Beinhaus (Bone House), a collection of 1,200 decorated human skulls. Learn how corpses were exhumed and the skulls were painted to preserve the memory of the deceased when the village ran out of burial grounds in the 18th century.

After five hours exploring Austria's scenic Lake District, your private tour will conclude with drop-off back at your Salzburg hotel.

Perfect for a quick trip!

For a quick (check the box) trip to Hallstatt, this is the way to do it! You’ll learn lots about the lakes and mountains on you’re way there. And have a little more than 2 hours to explore Hallstatt. Choose one of the following: the cable car/salt mine, eating at a restaurant, taking a boat across the lake, or meandering through the town. You will accomplish one of these. If you want more time, then spend the night. Going early in the morning was before the crowds.

We had a great trip to Hallstatt. Our tour guide picked us up right on time and the vehicle had plenty of space for four travelers. Our tour guide Carlos was excellent. He provided facts and stories all the way from Salzburg to Hallstatt. He answered all of our questions and was very clear and insightful. We highly recommend this tour, this company, and a quick visit to Hallstatt!!

Hallstatt is unbelievably beautiful. You will leave there with postcard perfect pictures. We felt a little rushed however. Wish we would have had more time to spend there.

He was more interested in listening to classical music than explaining about the sights. Also, he was very time conscious kept us from seeing all that was promised.

This was such a wonderful tour ! Our tour guide, Sonya, was so interesting and gave us great information about Hallstatt and the surrounding areas. She was very knowledgeable and fun ! Do not miss seeing Hallstatt ! It's amazing and the drive to and from Salzburg is just as enjoyable. We saw Lake Fuschlsee and Lake Wolfgangsee. They were also so beautiful. We had time to walk around the town of Hallstatt and it was perfect !

Visit to Slatmine was included and mentioned in the tour voucher whereas on tour it was not covered. When we told the guide he refused to take us to the Salt Mine.

This tour is great! your guide is so friendly. After this tour, he took us to another route that used more time travel for a nice view of mountain, its make us feel good! A one disadvantage is they just let us walk in Hallstatt without any recommendation or any knowledge of Hallstatt, just let us walk by ourselves. But it ok.

We really enjoyed this trip to Hallstatt! It was very scenic and informative. Our guide was excellent providing us with much information along the way! Our only negative was that the amount of time allotted in the town is just tooo short. We would have liked an additional hour at least to experience the town in more depth.

We booked two private tours during our stay in Salzburg. The first tour was much better and the tour guide was friendly and flexible to let us know we can detour to other places if we wish to see. This tour guide we had for Hallstatt tour was not that friendly and we cant even hear what he is explaining to us during the tour. He seems to be mumbling to himself, end up we just have to see the scenery and the disappointing thing was when we just want to stop by to buy water or something, the driver will repeatedly say, "Its up to you, but if the tour is overtime, he will have to charge extra" Its not as if we will take a lot of time buying 3 bottles of water? Anyway overall, at least we went around and see a lot of good views in Salzburg. it could have been better if its the same tour guide we had during our first day tour.
